A.S. Resolve and blanket weed
Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has had issues with Aquasource Resolve and cold temperatures?
Late November just gone, I noticed a few strands of blanket weed developing but it didn't concern me too much as it was heading into winter, so I assumed that it wouldn't get very far. Fast forward two short weeks and it's slowed the flow of my bottom drain so much, my sieve can't give the pump enough water and the pump is starting to run dry.
I throw some Aquasource Resolve in but it doesn't seem to affect it whatsover - we are now in the coldest part of December and the fish who would usually be pulling it off the walls aren't too interested either. I put another 5 batches in over the course of the next 60 days but I never get more than the odd strand in the Sieve and the walls and floors of the pond are now covered.
So that brings us to yesterday where, rather than put more Resolve in, I put in some leftover Kusuri Gold from two seasons ago with 6 months left on the label and within 24 hours I have weed peeling off the walls at a rapid rate.
In hindsight I would've put some Resolve in as soon as I saw weed developing but I was expecting more after 6 rounds of treatment. When I last used Resolve 12 months ago it was all gone in 2 weeks.. is it the temperatures? My parameters are fine but pond temps have been low
Appreciate your thoughts

Since a very bad season with blanket weed a couple of years back, I've been treating the pond with Resolve every four weeks throughout the year and it's worked a treat.

I`ve found over the years that Blanket Weed can strike at any time of year - even in the depths of winter , so you have to be vigilant . The science says that it needs a combination of light and nutrients to thrive .
What I`ve found is that if you catch it early a treatment or two with the AS resolve will kill it . BUT , as it dies off I get a build up of black crud on the walls and floor which needs vaccing off and makes a right mess . Whether the presence of the crud then perpetuates a fresh cycle of BW , I`m not sure - but I wouldn`t be surprised if it contributes !
However - last year I had a breakthrough ! . After I got rid of the BW , early last year , I starting using a sludge buster product , which got rid of the crud . I`ve continued using this on a little and often basis and now the walls are completely clear . I`ll be keeping a close eye on it , as spring approaches , but as yet - nothing !Colin

My water is high in Phosphate and Nitrates straight from the tap. Pond is also out in the open so is very prone to blanket weed. I add a half dose of resolve every 4 months and this works weel for me. I think prevention is better than a cure.
To the OP you can give it a couple of weeks then redose.
Resolve will lower Phosphate but not to an massive extent.

It has worked well in the past for me,
as other have said early dosing before it gets hold is key.
I've still got full tub as back up, but since going Recycle R.O for the last two years, i've not needed it.
Recycle R.O keeps nitrates and phosphate at very low levels.
