Just wondering do any of you have any "buddys" that look after your pond whilst you are away ? i have an elderly neighbour who can feed them but would not have a clue if anything happened !
i am based in Sheffield.

I would leave them, your neighbour may overfeed them and make matters worse.
I have in the past left mine for two weeks no problem with no food.
Presume this is when it is warmer and they start feeding.John

If you have someone who can just check the water is still moving (Filter pumps / air working) and can top up the water level if falls below a certain point (gravity fed systems etc), then that should be enough.
I tend to ask a local Koi dealer if they mind that I give their number to a neighbour/family member etc to call upon in the event of an emergency (fish start going belly up / major leak develops etc).
As for food, no need to worry if only going for a couple of weeks, longer in winter. If I'm away at the height of summer I'll usually ask someone to feed every day or every other day mainly to keep the filters operating at full speed so I can get them back on heavy feeding as soon as I return, but even in those cases I will measure out the daily feeds into cups etc.

My jebao auto feeder let me down whilst on holiday this summer. Luckily I had a friend feeding my the cat. He's not pondy at all, but he noticed, so fair play to him. He just chucked a handful in everyday. Perfect.

If you are a member of a local koi club then they are a great source of buddies - one of the many benefits of joining a club.

I have my daughter and son in law locally to check on things if I need them to- I can monitor things remotely from cameras and a device with SIM card that dials me if power from drum panel goes down.
I did have to ask him to go round in the recent storms- we were in the Maldives and 3 of my 4 pond covers got blown off into the garden. This bashed the feeder out of its bracket, and knocked the clock off the filter house wall into the pond, so I had to get him to use my big net to fish it out. It also broke off one of the lights on the filter house, so that needed isolating at the plug.
The fish were fine.
I do have weights on all 4 corners of the covers. I might have battened down the hatches before going away if the weather forecast has not seemed so mild. We didn’t see it coming the week before
No harm done except to his abs, having to put back massive panels in wind on his own (my grandson is 8 but not big enough to help with that job!).
I would probably be more concerned leaving them in summer where there is more potential for one to get sick etc.2016 new 6000 gallon pond
