I had a 30k variable pump on my Christmas list to upgrade from the current 22k.

But the place selling them for £250 is out of stock and everywhere else is asking £379, so I've been told I'm not getting it.

Therefore, all my Koi will be getting is their last feed for 2024 before I put them through a period of fasting to allow the females to resorb any eggs.

My Xmas list is empty but a varipump would be very useful.

I have had no new pumps for circa 15 years so am completely out of date.
Pond is 2000 gallons, gravity fed vortex & jap matting 5 bay filter. Nothing
    modern whatsoever.
What should I be looking at for a mid priced pump ?

Hard to know as I don't tend to buy the expensive branded ones as I've found the cheaper Jebao TSP pumps very good, oldest one has been running nearly 7 years now.

Older pumps can consume a lot more power than more modern ones so that's where I'd start looking. You might find a £250 replacement pump such as the PondXpert 20,000 variable (24w to 180ish watts) saves you it's purchase price in reduced electricity.

I ordered a new automatic feeder for my grow on,as soon as it was delivered my wife snatched it from me and said " that's for xmas "

That was over a week ago,so I have been hand feeding 6 x times a day as my last feeder broke.

    WOMEN.

I literally send my family the Amazon links for the stuff I want. I normally get - "oh I don't want to get you a bit of grey pipe!"
    ...but that's what I want.

Thank you, some for old posts frequently quote Jeboa. Some suggest that it is best
to buy a pump with double the output & then run it at halfspeed for economy/life extension.
    would you advise that ?

If not too late look at the PondXpert pumps - They are an older version still made by Jebao but they can actually run at a lower wattage compared to the later ones.

Or search for Jebao TSP pumps.
Avoid the TSPS versions (nothing wrong with them, but less variability / controllability of the flow rates).
