Thread: There’s a rat in my kitchen what am I gonna do

All Jokes aside, I was topping my pond up at the weekend and I noticed a worm on the edge of the waterfall, when I got closer I noticed it was not a worm but a rats tail, Ne was shufling around in the rocks and by the looks of it he's set up home under the waterfall and is taking the backing off the waterfall for his bedding,
Has anyone else experienced this and what should I do, Was gonna place some traps to catch him as I don't want the fella ruining my pond.

lol , is this a common problem with ponds ?

i have seen a couple in my garden but not the pond, 1 caught in a trap, the other caught in cross hairs !

It’s probably been feeding on pellets As above , it needs a lead pellet to show it the error if it’s ways. It may eat through the liner , and there’s never ever only one rat. They spread disease my pal nearly died of weils disease from sitting his cigarette on a wall top inbetween drags.

Just ordered a load of rat traps so will aim to eradicate the little Fxxcker ,

rats have neophobia, so traps are not always as easy as put one down and it works...

the best method is to make piles of sawdust and bread crumb mix. (if you have a dry area they have access to)
replace the piles everynight they disturb/eat them.
after 4 or 5 days when they regularly go to the piles very night.
then place the traps and cover in the breadcrumb sawdust.
it's best to sit up and empty the traps as soon as they spring, if they see other rats dead there they will avoid the area.

I just use a fixed poison bait station that has a wheel of bait with a steel rod through it so they have to eat the bait inside the covered trap.
but not everyone is ok with poisoning them. especially if they have pets.

just want him out of my fountain lol , Will see if I can catch him in a trap and if not will have to try other methods

Well the hunt goes on , the bugger avoided all the traps after nicking the food first, so now I have bait boxes around the back of the pond with the hope to unalive this little fxxcker

After my heron incident I think I preferred it when the rat was visiting!

Peanut butter is the prefered bait for us shooters
