Black balls in k1 media
I am checking my moving bed. To do so I have taken out the k1 media. In it I have noticed small soft round black balls. The look and feel like black currents!
what are they. I suspect bacteria , so need to know if I should put them back?

Have you ever put bio balls (the jelly ones to seed the bacteria in the filter) into the bio chamber?
If so it's probably them, because they don't actually breakdown. I added some to my bio filter and they were still knocking about in there about 3 years later.

Yeah. The EA bacteria balls etc are well known to be totally bollox. It makes you wonder if the actual bacteria in other forms really works or even exists in those products?

The smelly ones are more convincing in my mind, heavy bacteria loads tend to whiff a bit.
The blue gels and balls and liquids that don't smell etc are gimmicky and best avoided. - no evidence for that, just my logic.2660 Gallons. 4" Bottom Drain and Skimmer. Draco Solum 16 Drum. Anoxic Filtration. Air lift returns.
