My year with blanket weed, or lack of.
Just thought that I would post this, as it might be of interest to some.
2023 season was my worse year for blanket weed, a constant battle with it drifting about, blocking drains, choking up the filters etc. So I decided upon a different approach for this past season.
Last December, once most of the weed had died back, I put in a full dose of Resolve. Since then I have put in the same dose at exactly four weekly intervals.
Results have been so good. Absolutely no blanket weed from last December until now.
I had been looking at filtration options for reducing Phoshate as I knew my levels were creeping up. But this was looking to be costly and I really didn't feel up to coping with all the additional work required to shoe horn something in. The Resolve treatment has been cost effective and extremely easy to dose.
Anyway, hopefully my experience might help others who are plagued with the green stuff.

I really struggled with blanket weed this year , constant blocking of Oase Drum through bottom drain .
Cleared over a three week period in June with Aqua Source Resolve.
Came back with s vengeance about two weeks ago and treating the same and seems to be clearing.
Pond is three years old and first year of any problems.

Agreed, i've used resolve with good effect a few years ago, it works very well especially if you use it before it takes hold.
but i've had zero blanket weed for two years now since using recycle R.O.
nitrates are low 0-5ppm and phosphates 0-0.25ppm
all i get now is a haze of green algae on the pond walls and window, and don't have to do anything other than clean the glass occasionally.Last edited by davethefish1; 04-11-2024 at 02:40 PM.

Strangely enough I had little blanket weed this year too but I did treat for it in summer once. I always have a pot of resolve handy then as soon as it starts to grow a bit resolve goes in as can take up to 10 days to fully kick in and thats usually me done for the season.

I’ve had great success with Resolve too - but when I do a few large water changes it’s starting from square one again.

Didn't have to do anything this year. Or ever actually, touch wood. Black fly larvae in the algae so the fish kept eating it.
2660 Gallons. 4" Bottom Drain and Skimmer. Draco Solum 16 Drum. Anoxic Filtration. Air lift returns.
Filtreau 25 & bio unit
A Draco uses mains water pressure. That really is hassle free. Horses for courses Drum failures...
