Someone else had exactly this problem. Foxes shitting on the polycarb. I wonder what on earth attracts them?

At my last house I thought it was because they've discovered water, which is a precious resource, and are marking and protecting it as their territory.
But that doesn't make sense in this context since they have to walk along a stream to get to my pond!
Other than the masses of slugs everyone's been plagued with this year, there isn't anything else in my garden that can be even remotely considered as a food source.
The random holes they dig all over the lawn seem pointless too, nothing buried that would interest them.

I think any fence might help, but in my case it defeats the point of making the stream a feature, would be expensive, make the garden smaller, and going by the fact they had no trouble climbing 7 to 10 foot fences at my last house I fear it would be a waste of time.
I think I'd try the water sprayer before trying an electric fence.
I'm also conscious that as much as I don't like the damage they cause, humans are building houses all over their land and they need to live somewhere.
Just don't want them pooing in my pond or damaging our furniture.

Have now sprinkled citronella granules around the garden and installed 2x ultrasonic fox deterrents at entry points.
Haven't had any damage or fox deposits for the 4 nights since. Fingers crossed.

If your new measures don't work, What's your longest span for the polycarb? I may have some of the alloy I made my cross members out of, left over. Or if not I could look out for some more if you need it? It would certainly stop it dipping when the fox is on it.

Thanks for the kind offer.
I regret leaving my 2.6m aluminium box sections at my last house. They have gone up a lot in price since I bought them so I've never replaced them.
Widest span on current pond is 2.4m.
Since installing the deterrents I've not had any foxes on the pond..... been raining on and off the last 2 days so I need to get out there to spread more granuals this evening.
I'll let you know about the ally if I do eventually need it. What is the width/height?
I have 20mm foam strips under the edges of the polycarb to "seal" it against the riven coping stones, so I could slot anything up to 20mm thick under the polycarb without having to do any real work.Last edited by RS2OOO; 15-11-2024 at 11:59 AM.

I cut the box sections in half, into C sections and bolted them together, back to back, staggered and the longest length I made was 2.6m. probably 3mm or so alloy, so not a lot of height. They taper down. Check out my pond thread, from when I made them, see what you think, if needs be...
