New Pumps! Aqua Eco Vario S 22,000
So after the dimise of my barely 3 year old £450 aquaforte vario 30,000S and no spare parts available (99% sure it's the controller)
I have to replace that pump in my new bio set up, so decided to get two Aqua Eco 22,000 vario pumps,
they worked out a pretty good price (£205 minus £10.25 back in points earned) and seem absolutely identical to the aquaforte vario exept in colour.
and the pumps each come with 2 x 2" threaded to solvent weld unions. that would normally cost around £20 to £34 per pump.
as well as the usual hosetail and strainer connections.
making them as cheap as £175 each minus the points and union cost...I like a Bargain!

so i'll keep my 5 year old 20,000 non sinewave aquaforte as a spare/back up pump.
and use the two Aqua Eco 22,000 on the new bio and ASHP.
I particularly like that you can get a full range of spares at reasonable prices
(spare controller or motor at £69),
(spare impellor or housing £32)

Hi Dave,
What sort of connection does the vario pump control have on the loom?
I found that the male & female multi plugs for my Bermuda and EVO Aqua pump controllers were exactly the same, and the controllers were pretty much identical. The only difference was the Bermudas had onboard wifi and app control function.
When my 10000 Bermuda pump gave up the ghost I plugged the new 20000 EVO pump straight into the Bermuda controller and hey presto! it worked flawlessly and I even retained the wifi/app control function?
Just a thought as I've a couple of brand new unused EVO controllers?EZ-pond 1200i Semi-Raised Pond, Spin-drifter BD, Oase Aquaskim, Oase Proficlear Compact Gravity, 1x Bermuda 10,000, 1x Evo-Aqua 20,000 Vari Wi-fi Pumps, 2x Evo-Aqua 70L Air Pumps , Evo-Aqua 55w UV, Aqua-Sieve Midi, 3 Tier Fabricated Stainless Shower, Hydro-Pro Z7 Heat Pump, 48" Big Blue De-chlorinator, Profi Auto Feeder & Seneye Pond Pack.

Hi Dave,
I think the problem with these pumps, unless they have made a change, is that they only adjust down to 80w minimum, which from memory delivers a 9k lph flow rate at zero head.
The PondXpert pumps are essentially the same pump, yet can be adjusted down to 30w and according to the charts have a more efficient power / flow band with the caveat being they max out at 20k lph:
https://www.powerbee.co.uk/pond-pump...low-20000.html
I learned this through buying the same pump you've bought, and so did @smartin on here but his situation wasn't an emergency like mine so he had the time to return both of his and exchange them.
My next pump will probably be one of these, which operates down to 45 watts whilst providing comparitively more flow than the 22k SW pumps (I can't find the charts but have studied them before).

I have had a look at the pond expert pumps RS, but like the spare parts easy access of the aqua eco's from coastal koi.
looking at the aquaforte and aqua eco's these pumps are so idential any parts can be exchanged between models and they fit perfectly.
so obviously made in the same factory...
the pond expert pumps are the non sine wave pumps, the same as my 20,000 aquaforte... and do have much more adjustability on power.
not sure about the greater flow output, as the you tube video i saw showed all manufactures wildly exaggerating real life outputs
but the big difference i found in the sine wave v's non sine wave pumps is the noise level.
my 20,000 non sine wave and 10,000 non sinewave pumps, are more noisey to run than my 30,000 sinewave pump was (before the drum killed it).
but i'm happy with 80w on mine as a minimum due to the length of pipe run to my ASHP about 20 meters with 10 elbows
plus I run mine same speed in winter and summer.
my 30,000 was run at 180w and my 20,000 at 125w year round, though i'll probably run them both at 125w as the bio doesn't need as much turn over as the shower did.Last edited by davethefish1; 23-09-2024 at 11:07 PM.

Personally I find the noise difference between the 2 pumps minimal but the non SW has a higher pitch and this is more noticeable when the pumps are flat out.
In my situation the 80w minimum is a pain as I like to ramp it right down over winter.
The casings of the pumps are identical, if you look carefully when facing the pump inlet you will notice a manufacturing flaw, almost like a covered up crack on the left side of the light grey casing as you look at it. Whilst none of mine have leaked there, I have heard of them doing so.

Sorry to distract you again, but if it's a pressure type, then the economics aren't so good at that point, are they?
It is strange that pure transport-only pumps have not taken off there, even though so many people must have visited Japan and seen examples installed.

If my calcs are right the efficiency of that pump looks fairly good.
91w for 21 tonne's per hour.
Assuming that's imperial, works out at 21x224 = 4704 gallons per hour or 21,356 lph.
But that's on a 100v supply. Outcome might be different on a 240v supply.

high volume low pressure pumps can deliver a lot of lph for less wattage,
aqua forte do similar ones over here, but mostly used on the continent in the netherlands and germany in big multi bay gravity systems.
25,000lph for 130w but max head is low at 3m
or 55,000 lph for 335 watts

Or save yourself a fortune In the upfront costs of buying a pond pump and in running one and install an air lift instead.
Although admittedly that won't really be suitable if pumping through an ashp or shower etc...
