    Keeping other fish with Koi

    Hi,

I've had my pond running for around 3yrs now, when I started out I was advised to start with a few Orfe's & Grass carp to get the pond started and use as 'canary fish' to alert me to any water issues.

To date I haven't lost any fish and still have 3x Albino grass carp and 7 Orfe's (golden & blue).
Apart from the hassle of trying to catch them, is there any pro/cons of keeping or removing them?
Alongside my Koi, they not as pleasing on the eye but the Orfe's especially are quite skittish and not as visible as the Koi.

Have been thinking about removing but I guess have been put off by the challenge of doing so and finding a new home for them.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Gavin

They won’t do any harm and they’re a bit different, people have started to get a thing for Tamabasa now so you’re not alone in having a mixed pond
13,243 gallons, Filtreau HF30’s K1 capacity of 1,400l, Bakki Shower, BHM and understanding wife

The main issue with mixed ponds is when it comes to treatments. A number of parasite treatments for Koi cannot be used with other types of fish.

Aside from that they'll all get on fine together.
