    Columbo Test Kit Issue

Bought a Columbo test kit a couple of weeks ago, always thought they were a good backup and have used the test tubes in the past for measuring out small doses of treatments for my hospital tank etc, one of my fish wasn't right it was sulking in a corner and not coming up for food so i decided to get the fish out and have a better look, i used one of the test tubes to measure out the sedate and added it to the bowl (the usual routine) when i had the fish in the bowl i noticed it wasn't behaving as i would expect it too it was still full of life, anyway i persevered and done what i need to do, i binned the rest of the bottle of sedate thinking it was at fault although it was only opened that day. Anyway too cut a long story short i discovered that the test tube was at fault (and me probably) the measure on the side of the tube was out by about 40% when i added 5ml of water to the tube via a syringe it read 7ml on the tube. I contacted Columbo and they apologised and said there had been a error with the printing on the test tubes but its all sorted now, thing is it only caused me a minor problem but if i was treating poorly fish in a hospital tank and used the test tube to measure the small amounts of chemicals needed id be under dosing !

On a brighter note, you got a reply from Colombo.

I've never had a response to any email I've sent them.

For the reason above, I've always disregarded any measurement marking on a vial. For years I've decanted my test water, using a Calpol syringe, as I figured a child's dosage would be more regulated, than any printer .. That said, my API kit appears true.

    Hi,
That sounds frustrating! It's good you discovered the issue with the test tube measurements before it caused any serious problems. It's concerning, especially for delicate situations like treating fish in a hospital tank. Hopefully, with the error corrected, you won't encounter this issue again.

    Thanks
