It can be bloody trying at times. Just finished treating for gill flukes. So dodging the rain yesterday, I was cleaning the drum and switching the U.V. back on, when I spotted my gin rin tancho lying on its side at the bottom. Not dead but not looking too good. So a quick scrape and I find Costia. More stress for the fish and my wallet.

Pain in the arse isn't it, Gary! There don't seem to be such thing as a trouble free season! I found flukes on mine last week but now have white spot as well so Cut the fluke treatment short to treat for the white spot as tbh my fish seem to always have some flukes and get on well enough but this white spot has them clamped on the bottom or smashing off the walls and floor like mad! FMG went in on Tuesday so as per Duncans book the next lot will be Sunday then another 5 days after, let's hope it shifts them! PP, SV and FMG so far in the past 2 weeks!

Guys - out of interest, where would I find/be able to order Duncan's book/ICC?

I feel your (and others) pain.

I noticed my fish started lunking/gulping air and diving back down. And also bottom sitting. Then one got a big red patch/raised scales on its flank - presumably from flashing on the BD cover.

I suspected a pH crash, but before doing a water change parameters were fine

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate - 20-40 (can never tell which)
pH 8
Kh 5

I did the water change and always use healthy doses of ST, so don't think it's a chlorine issue.

I netted a few to do scrapes but could not get any mucus off them (even my mirror carp who I was relying on as a good candidate).

I managed to get the smallest of blobs (just bigger than a pin head) off one and saw trich. So whacked some PP in there last weekend.

Since then it still seems that something is affecting the fish, but as I can't get any mucus, I can't say what?

I've not seen flukes on previous scrapes for a long time now so have half ruled them out.

One thing I have noticed is there is now suddenly a lot of blanket weed/string algae floating freely in the pond? I'm not sure if that is an indicator of a problem, especially as the pond walls only have a small fuzz of blanket weed.

I'm Stumped.

I suppose I should follow naoki's advice and leave them to their own fates and ensure I feed them little and often, which will then solve all problems :-D

With blanket weed and pond wall fuzz I would suggest monitoring pH swings through the day, mine are twitchy late afternoon and the only thing I can find is pH very high at that time.

I have used B/W control to try to reduce the growth on the walls and quite a lot of hoovering to get rid off but it still grows, the Koi peck it off and feed on it and the wrigglies making clouds of it in the water. My EZpod needs cleaning at least every other day 'cos it's clogged with it

Know others have had issues, but alparex has worked well for me with shifting costia. Need to be careful though if you’ve had fluke treatments in the pond recently.

What pisses me off is I’ve kept aquariums for years and have always very firmly believed that all issues can be traced back to water quality. So I monitor it religiously and never had a single parameter issue. Other than my already liquid rock hard water, no dips or spikes of anything at any point - and when there’s issues I can be testing 2 or 3 times a day. And still got ravaged by parasites. I’m hoping it’s because the fish are new.
