    Summer holiday planning

Just been told by missus we need to be away for 3 weeks in summer. Iím scratching my head to figure out how to get this approved at work - and even more worried what the koi /pond may go through. My lot went through flukes, Supaverm and all came out as winners, but I fear they may not survive 3 weeks during summer in a small 1000g pond. 1 koi 65cm. 4 40-45cm. A few fingerlings.

    Questions:

    1) if thereís plenty of algae on the walls for fish to eat when really hungry - do I still need to get an auto feeder? Iím thinking better to underfeed/no feed when away. Can fish live on algae and natural insects in pond?

    2) any Ďfish sitter/visitorĒ service youíre aware of or can recommend for M25 Surrey/Kent/Gatwick area? Iíd rather not ask a friend who hasnít kept fish to feed or clean filter or do water changes - especially those who may bring their kids over to feed feed feed

    3) I can install a camera and check from my phone while alway - though not very useful if I donít have someone local to call if I see something wrong like pump broken. Iíve a float switch for leaks but if that happens will still need someone to top up water with declorinator

Theyíve previously survived up to 1 week only with no one around so this will be unchartered

I think three weeks in the summer without food is way too long, unless in a natural pond, full of tasty morsels.
Last year, when planning out hols, I purchased an auto feeder and got it set up well ahead of the holiday, so that I could fine tune and ensure the reliability etc.
Camera was also a god send, as I spotted that the drain was blocked. A phone call to my daughter, saved the day

Autofeeder for feeding them? This is what I use but a I reduce the amount if I'm away just to ensure they don't get overfed.

Thank you guys for the advice. Iíll get an auto feeder. Think Iíll set it to drop food once per day for 3 weeks to keep waste minimal when no water changes are done.

What feeder makes would suffice for this daily feed? I read good review about X Clear - at £200 or so. Quite expensive but if itís of good quality Iíll get it. Donít want any accident of feeder dumping liters and liters of food while away either!

After plenty of researching/googling etc. I went with this one https://www.absolute-koi.com/aquafor...c-fish-feeder/

It suited my set up in terms of size, number of feeds and installation requirements.

It worked perfectly well and was easy to set up and programme. My only gripe would be just how sensitive it is to movement e.g. when remove the lid to refill, food will dispatched from the dispenser. Not a major problem and easily managed by holding a container of some sort below the spout when doing refills. Other than that, no complaints at all.

I ordered the X clear feeder for a qt in my garage. But when it arrived it was AquaForte. Apparently they are the same item, but just with a different brand label slapped on them.

Mine's been running since 2021 and it's worked perfectly without any issues. It's easy to programme and amend if needs be. I'd recommend it.
