Thread: Caught the koi bug,

Hi all.

As some know iam new to koi keeping and last year built a sleeper built pond with pressurised filter system etc, when I built the pond i didn't think i would become so hooked on the hobby, so Iv decided to go all out and start a new pond build.
It's in the planning stage, so far it's gunna be a 7500gallon running on two Nexus320+ two bottom drains wall skimmer on a bead, hollow blocked walls fully rebared and fibreglassed.

Iam gunna put a viewing window in, size 2metre wide 600 high,
Hope someone can help with the thickness of the window, i was thinking 39mm thick toughen and triple laminated, do people think this is adequate?

Any pointers greatly appreciated

Hi, I went as near as dam it 2mx1m. And I went with the 33mm. Or like Dave said 39mm would be better.

by the calcs they reccomend 31.5mm 2 x 15mm laminated i think?
so i'd go slightly thicker for less bow. 39mm 3 x 12mm laminated.
they want to be toughened, heat soaked, laminated, all polished edges, and dubbed corners.

another, and more expensive option to consider is low iron toughened glass, as it is optically clear with no green tint in it.
as the thicker your glass the more of a 'green tint' it will have looking through it.
but you may need to go even thicker with that, as it is not as strong as standard float glass

Cant help with glass as dont have a window but as said best to over size.

I did mine with hollow blocks dry stacked with rebar and infilled with concrete.

Hi John,
Just one wide mouth skimmer so, not sure about more just with where the blade is positioned, any advice will be appreciated.

Am gunna run cetus sieve then two tempests as a module on the skimmer, but iam open to suggestions.

I've not really thought about a drum.

This is what am proposing in the bottom, do you think the drains should be at the angle end.

I was thinking about the airlines been in the middle of the pond, i assume it doesn't really matter.
Would you put the skimmer more towards the blade or would the surface disturbance intafere to much with the skimmer?
