DD heater dual control thermostat min temp

Hi folks, my pond temp dropped to 4.4 this morning so out of caution I bought a 300w DD heater plus a dual controller (heating and cooling version). I didn’t anticipate the lowest operating temp is as high as 10d - I wanted to set to 5d! Obviously not possible with this controller.

Question for people who have used this controller before:

    - if temp is set to 10d (min) and differential set to 2d (max), am I right this means effectively when pond temp reaches 8d the heater will kick in? This appears to be the lowest ‘effective’ temp achievable.

    - if I want to set lowest effective temp to 5d when the heater kicks in - is there an inexpensive controller/thermostat brand you’d recommend?

Not really needing it for now. Just testing for worst case scenario say prolonged sub zero temp and water temp drops to close to 4d. I had this during previous winter but back then I had cheap koi and now not so willing to take the risk with koi from top breeders.

    Thank you in advance

Don't know about the controller you have but I'm using this one TC225, cheap as chips, it has full range setting as low as you like, mine is set at 4.0 ATM. Set at .2 differential so comes on at 3.8. Had these a couple of years now troublefree.

Yes you understand correctly. However as already suggested. You should put on a cheap heat controller. Mine is a cheap eBay Chinese one and has been faultless for two winters so far, set at 4.4 degrees.

Thank you v much guys. Does the cheap controller like TC225 require wiring? The DD heater has really short cable almost too short for my filter , and if I wire it it will be even shorter - I now regret selling my proline 2kw with controller - had it for 2 years without using. It has 2 meter long cable.

Thw TC225 comes with temp. sensor nothing else, you need to wire in supply mains lead and heater wires, diagram comes with, if you get one and have any problem give me a shout

I use an inkbird thermostat. Has been working for a couple of years no problem. It's all just plug and play.

The socket to plug the heater in is on some flex so should help out in your situation.
