    Jecod PA 45 Air Pumps

Just bought a couple of these Jecod PA 45 air pumps as they were a good price... £100 for two of them delivered.
and swapped out Jecod MA 100 that was running the air bar and bio...

    https://www.fastlight.co.uk/acatalog...Air-Pumps.html

they have a pretty good output, easily enough to do what the MA 100 was doing with two PA 45's
especially as they are not pumping to much depth about 2ft max.
and they are ridiculously quiet... when i first turned one on... i thought it was faulty and not working... as i couldn't hear it

testing them with the energy monitor i found that the one running the bio with a short run of pipe was pulling 21watts
but the other one on a long run of pipe to the air bar, was running at 31watts, so the back pressure having quite an effect on wattage...
i even tried swapping the pumps around, but the result was exactly the same,
21 watts on the short run of 12mm pipe, and 31 watts to the long run of 12mm pipe.

Thanks for the heads up Dave, when I add my moving bed I may be looking for a new air pump so these might be just the job.

early days but i'm pretty impressed straight out of the box...

very similar looking design and layout to the hi blow XP's, smaller neodynium magnets and smaller ferric coils.
i should have gone with two smaller pumps right at the start, but they weren't this cheap when i looked last time

    thought i'd update this thread.
when the diaphram breaks the metal threaded end of the magnet smashes the pump housing.

I bought two of the 120 models and the motor sounds like it's surging!

some of the bigger models you can buy a complete kit including the housing ends,
but the membranes for these are cheap as chips i'd replace them yearly at the least....

this one is only barely over a year old....

I had one of these, I bought used off fleabay as a spare, just to throw on an extra diffuser in hot thundery weather.
First time I tried it in on the extra air diffuser placed bottom of the pond it gave up the ghost after 20 mins and was red hot.
I bought and installed a full service/repair kit for it, which seemed to do the trick for a couple of hours, then it overheated again and gave up completely.
    In the bin it went
Lesson learnt..... don't go cheap even on used stuff . It ended up dearer than a new one once I'd forked out on the service kit and still ened up in the bin

the one that went was pumping to a 4" air diffuser in the bio tank, probably les than 2ft of water so not a lot of pressure.
but only lasted one month past a year...

Just checked back on my Fleabay history Dave, I was mistaken.

    It was a SECOH 50 I had, (lt's been a long time)

I tested it on collection and all seemed ok. Put on a single 8" diffuser around a 1.25 Metres down. Lasted about 20 mins, before the air fizzled out and the pump overheated.
I raised the diffuser to near the surface and it lasted a few hours before doing exactly the same, I couldn't rely on it, so in the bin it went

Been using the PA air pumps exclusively for a few years now.
As I use a PA 80 to drive my air lift which is the circulation pump I do change the diaphragms annually. Getting easily 17,500+ litres water flow per hour for 55W is hard to beat. I also have a couple of PA 45's for other duties, including reduced winter circulation in the air lift.
The extremely expensive Japanese air pump that came as part of our extremely expensive Profidrum filter disintegrated spectacularly and tripped the RCD in the process.
My DIY ponds from 1988 until present day.

I just went out to the garage and thought it seemed quiet in there.

Turns out my jecod 35pa air pump on my qt has recently packed in as well.

It wasn't even that old. I think it is about 2 years old.

Not good really if they are packing up that soon. It makes me think maybe I should turn the air off on my moving beds in winter but then surely that'll have an adverse effect on the bacteria?

I'd say so mate water movement over the media and aeration for the filter bacteria.

Maybe I will run it during the day and off at night as can't be good having them running 24/7!

moving beds need to move 24/7
its about stability, if you turn them on and off you will be adding instability to your water quality.

My moving bed is now a static bed. Jecod PA 45 Air Pumps

I tried taking the pump apart and one of the screws was so tight it broke my screwdriver. So I have still not seen what things look like inside it. Not sure it'll change much though as I'll probably have to buy a new one regardless.

Hopefully the fish will be ok whilst I get a replacement air pump.
