mine has been at the same temperature for weeks now...
i suppose that's just one of the down sides to an uninsulated pond base...
is though it elevates temps in winter,
once the pond temperature is higher than the ground temperature, it starts working the opposite way, and adsorbing heat again,
so takes a bit longer to heat up. but does add stability for night time drops....

Turned out the return pipes didn't run exactly where I thought, they follow the skimmer pipe around the edge of the pond as per drawing above, so the blockwork for the shower is directly over them and will have to be ripped out in the event any of the pipes needing attention.
The base for the shower is 7 parts soft sand to one cement, quite a weak mix that should break up and crumble easily if the worst did happen.

Installation completed and all up and running today.
Every single pipe join on the 2nd hand bead leaked, and the blower didn't work at first either, turned out to be the fuse in the plug and now working fine.
Wrapped it in foil insulation but won't be running it overnight till temps come up a bit.
Water surface looking crystal clear so it appears to be doing what I hoped, although the real test will be when the food really starts going in.
For shower media I've gone for pumice in the top tier, CSM in the middle section, and the bottom section stays empty and works as a foam fractionator.

Not familiar with beads and the pipework looks complicated great job Steve and pond looking really good.
I would be covering the shower with something so it's not so much in your face as the pond looks so natural.
Have a look at Alex 1968 shower he covered his with false plants and looks good.
No offence Steve just trying to be honest mate.John

I don't disagree mate.
Wife doesn't mind it so no urgent rush.
I have thought about spray painting it to blend in, or to make a decking clad insulated cover, or to wrap it in bamboo screening.
I'll probably run it as it is until I run out of the many odd jobs that need doing!
As for the bead, its now carrying 25 litres of micro k1 and the pump is coping fine, and its doing a good job of filtering the water. Tried cleaning it out with the blower and first impressions were good, it really agitates the hell out of it and seemed to clean it quite thoroughly.

Thanks Steve/Dave.
On the next sunny day I'll take a short video properly showing the water clarity and maybe go round the full set up.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
