I'm not expecting miracles, I did want a good 40cm nisai to start off with,
but the only ones available at the time were a group of fairly small sansai from 30cm to 40cm.
But being small sansai they were a lot cheaper.
That said it shows how much difference the right food and temperature can make.
Even with a fish that only made 30cm to 40cm in 3 years to go 60cm in 6 months.

Hikari miracle grow for fish 🤪 does show that the fish arnt getting feed properly at dealers they most probably was 30/40 cm nisai that never sold so become sansi but do you think that has a negative effect on the fish or will just rapidly grow when feed right I have fish that have done similar been small nisai tosai that never sold

i think it might have a small impact on final size, basically lost a years maximum growth.
so probably won't go 80cm
but if all my fish go 80cm i'll probably only have room for 5 or 6 fish
mine was the second down from the top two males in this bowl of izumiya yamabuki, and stronger coloured
which were all sansai.
izumiya yamabuki do tend to have nice fukarin
the two biggest at about 45-46cm iirc. in the bottom 3.
were both females and lighter in colour but already sold icluding the smallest which was also a lighter coloured female

There is no way I would have bought the little one in that bowl I would be thinking that it would stay small the bottom female is bright but the males are far brighter than them not being rude but what was the price and was the female more expensive

the male I bought was £195
and I think the females were about the same price, but had already sold.
not sure of price on the little one, as like you wouldn't want the runt...
the only thing with the males is they can go a bit darker when they get older.
where as the light coloured females can still look pale lemon.

Read an article on yamabuki last year and it said go for the pale fish as they go darker as they mature but the male vrs female makes sense as you don’t really see bright big females
Not a bad price that for a izumiya see some prices for them crazy money so much of a difference between dealers for the same fish

i love yamabukis! at this moment only have 1 in my pond, bred by Kanno, purchased last year at 25cm. measured her at 47cm in November. i think she's about 55cm now. very very pleased with the koi, though i have no idea how big Kanno's ogons go (didn't even know he bred them, i just bought one because i needed an ogon and the dealer was giving dicounts).
Kept hearing that Momotaro's yamabukis are all the rage these days and grow very big. out of my budget, sadly. A tosai would cost 10x what i paid for this Kanno specimen here in Jakarta.

Thank you, i didn't know what to expect when i bought her from seeing pictures/video. But for the price i figured i really had nothing to lose. It was practically a giveaway. She had the nicest body out of the 20 or so pieces the dealer had. Grew about 30cm in around 8 months, with body to match. Hope it continues.
Meantime i just bought another yamabuki, this time from Marudo , said to be from Izumiya oyagoi. Haven't taken delivery. I'll take a pic when the dealer sends it over. But at a glance from the video they sent i doubt it'll make me as happy as i am with this one. Am already having a bit of buyer's remorse truth be told. I'll give it a few months and re-pond if doesn't turn out as hoped.

Just down the road mate, 24 carot gold and she was from Paul at Oaks. IIRC around 40 cm on collection, young Nisai. Now 55 at Sansai so growing steadily. He has 2 left from that spawning, not sure on price, but worth checking with him.
The whole Vat were amazing quality, although Paul says the parent was lost at NND, so no new ones at the moment.Fibreglassed/5000 gals/4.5 m Tunnel/Spindrifter/Twin drums/Bio chambers/Beads/Showers/Remora ASHP
