fingers crossed
but i don't think they would give a monkey's about digging the drives up mate....
...but the minute you get 1mm of settlement, and the block paving isn't mint and perfectly level... regardless of how it looked before they started...
severn trent would be getting sued left right and centre... and every one would be getting new block paved drives paid for by severn trentLast edited by davethefish1; 17-11-2022 at 11:28 AM.

Hi all, sorry i dont get on here that much but just need to say looking at the talks on here , is dave saying that £3.40 for 1000 litres of water is to much to pay , but around £330 on saki hikari is ok . You have got things all wrong in life , koi is a simple hobby for all to enjoy . Its only a water meter.

Hi sammy,
yes, that is exactly what i'm saying
paying £3.40 for 1000 litres of water, to water companies that are making 14 billion pounds a year in profit, for something you cannot get from any other company is a corrupt monopoly.
and yes, i'll happily spend £330 on saki hikari as i've had more growth and far better colouration in 6 months than i've had in 3 years on all the other foods costing £200 by comparison that i've tried
but i hardly think that buying saki hikari means i've got things all wrong in life...well... not all things wrong anyway lol!

The way I look at it now, if I am going to spend money on anything specific for improving the quality of the fish and their environment then the food is the first place to start so happy to pay for SH now. I don't think anyone should comment on what/how others spend their money if I am honest!
The fact is we are gradually getting shafted from every angle to the point where suddenly costs can change the dynamic of a hobby which when added to all the other things, it could easily cross the line where someone like Dave decides enough is enough. In this day and age it's a very fine line between something being affordable or not. With the electric cost rises it has certainly made me consider closing the pond, and I haven't even finished it yet!

all too true mate...
it's like death by a thousand cuts... each one is small in it's self.
but put them all together and it's starting to make a real impact on peoples lives...
there have been too many people leaving the hobby already, not through choice,
but because they have to put priorities like family first...
what seemed to me like very worrying fears of £1200 a year water bills just for the pond.
have been thankfully been allayed by helpful members on here who do have meters.
but hopefully i have dodged that bullet for a little while longer

Go and have a word with the engineers about how you'd like a seperate supply "unmetered" just for your pond
Surprising how many engineers in the cost of living crisis find a couple of hundred quid on the pavement.....

Having been a pipefitter for 30 years,
You wouldn't believe the scams that used to go on back in the 70's and 80's.
A mate used to work for british gas and they used to fit secondary meters under the floor boards for £500.
They would be 'on call' for emergency gas leaks.
Then the 'client' would call saying they smelled gas.
They would come in shut off the mains supply and fit another meter under the floorboards for the central heating only.
So the cooker and gas fire would still generate a small bill but the central heating was free....Last edited by davethefish1; 18-11-2022 at 10:42 AM.
