Is this a uniquely Japanese habitual thing?

There seems to be a lot of fry rearing going on there these days, for people who keeps all the fry intact but I always end up asking them why they are neglecting the culling process?

The master of this video, which was posted just a few moments ago, is the exact opposite version of it.

Apparently, this person was originally an arowana enthusiast, a carnivorous ornamental fish, who always bought excluded fry for food, but at the same time kept KOI and reported that there were still such decent KOI left from that food.

I myself tend to get excited too when I see a large number of KOI, whatever the criteria, and I'm hoping to find a few good ones. The comments are quite a lively mix of arowana keepers and Nishikigoi keepers!
