Name the variety #1
Take a look at this lovely doitsu kawari which is staying at Byer Koi Farm for the foreseeable future. Harvested this week in this year's nisai (https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/blogs/blog/nisai-release-scheduled-for-10th-and-11th-september), I thought it would be interested to put it in front of you all, and ask......
...... your thoughts please on what variety it is :-)

Never seen a koi quite like it, so will have a stab in the dark and make up a name.....
Albino Kuchi-Ki Shusui
Whatever it is, it is very interesting. Get it to Jumbo still holding the pattern and you might just break the UK price record!

YUKI ASAGI (YUKI means snow) exists, so
How about YUKI SHUSUI?
Oh, so this is not SHUSUI blood, but a DOITSU OCHIBA variant?
If so, I hope it gets a special, nice name when it has been fixed!!Last edited by Naoki Atsumi; 10-09-2022 at 02:02 AM.

Thank you for your thoughts.
It's a tough one!
We're calling it a BKF style doitsu kawari , ki sui, for the moment. It's non metallic. Shusui style of lateral pattern. White base, with no dark zipper marking, and a strong yellow pattern.
We have just 2 from the entire spawning. We also had one which was exactly the same but with a light grey base, and made that available, and it sold on day 1.
Another koi variety questions coming up... I'll start it on a new thread.Co-founder and owner of Adam Byer Koi Farm (https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/collections/koi-for-sale)

It must surely be well worthwhile attempting to reproduce these. You are lucky to have 2, even luckier if opposite sexes to breed back with the original parent fish.
It looks unique, oozes quality, and as per my previous post, if you can retain those qualities into a large size it would surely command a high price point.
I would love one in my pond, as I'm sure many others would.
And I would be extremely proud to have produced something so unique.
Wish you the very best with these.

Thank you.
We're growing these 2 on , and yes, we will attempt to reproduce them but hopefully in slightly larger numbers. They're off a large yagengi female doitsu karashigoi (konishi / sakai blood), so I'm happy with the starting place.
Keep an eye on us in a few years time to see whether we can reproduce these and form a line.Co-founder and owner of Adam Byer Koi Farm (https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/collections/koi-for-sale)

Isn't this the place to talk about future UK-only fixes for new varieties?
Inbreeding between KOIs with similar characteristics, for example parent-offspring crosses and sibling crosses, is the most effective and common way to fix new varieties, and many existing varieties also go through them in the process of being fixed.
However, if this procedure is carried out too rapidly, it can often be passed on in the future as a somatic fault of the breed.
Platinum, for example, tends to have more flesh on the lower half of the body than Yamabuki Ogon and never reaches 80 cm or more. Another such body shape fault is that KINSHOWA and especially the recently emerged KIKOKURYU and BENIKIKOKURYU and others. The tendency is also present.
I had the opportunity to ask the owner of IPPINYA, who is keen to develop new variety in recent years, about this, and he told me that it is important to promote the process of fixing and at the same time to ensure the physical shape of the product. In other words, the most important thing is to fix the breed through inbreeding, while at the same time mixing in bloodlines that will strengthen the body shape.
※He is known for his use of the SHIROMUJI, a mutation arising from HIUSTSURI, which is over 1 m long, and other mutations at key points.
And we look forward to the day in the not-too-distant future when new varieties of British originals will dominate.Last edited by Naoki Atsumi; 25-09-2022 at 01:31 PM.
