I'm not keen on anoxic mate, not seen too many people running them long term...
Plants are something I've thought of.
but to have any effect needs to be a reasonable size, my 1990s koi pond had a shallow 6ft x 4ft header pond full of parrots feather, and had lilies in the main pond.
But this garden has literally no room left to add something that size...
I even thought about building a 6" deep pond on top of the pergola for plants,
but it's just not feasible without structural engineering.
I'll probably have to look at upgrading my recycling ro set up with larger membranes and vane pump.
To get a 7:1 waste ratio and reduce the amount of dechlorinated water I need....

So finally got round to changing the activated carbon in the 2nd big blue over to catalytic carbon.
hope it last longer than the 2 months the activated carbon did.
though i still had no free chlorine getting past. it was all combined chlorine byproducts...
so the 3 big blues are:
1) activated carbon to remove the bulk of free chlorine that makes up over 90% of the total chlorine, and to stop the catalytic carbon getting loaded up with the easier to remove free chlorine.
2) catalytic carbon to remove the combined chlorine byproducts trace mono chloramines and trihalomethanes. roughly 5-10% of total chlorine
3) bone char to remove any metals left in the water.
