I'm in the hottest parts of the south east and pond temps have only just slipped up through 20C for the first time this year!

Just checked and my pond is currently at 25.5 degrees C filter shed is 32, it's 31 in the shade outside.

Eazy Pod and pond temperatures are identical so would like to think that's a fairly accurate reading for the pond water temperature.

Have 5 trees overhanging pond. It was 7.

2 gone, 5 more to go.

    Plus a pergola.

It gets maybe 1-2 hours of sunlight hitting the surface, and even that is only about 30% of the surface.

Must be a big contributor to the cool water temps.

And maybe a lot of the heat gets transferred into surrounding soil as well, which is probably water logged as there's a stream running near pond at about same level as the pond base.

That explains a lot as mine has a brick built shed, a wooden fence, a Keter shed and gets a lot of sun on it

Plus I'm slightly closer to the equator than you are, I think? Lol

Mine has Direct sun from not long after sunrise till about 6pm this time of year! Although it is covered usually till it warms up to hold temperature usually. I left 2/3 covered today but couldn't bare to leave it completely covered when I was going to be home a lot. Out all day tomorrow so it will stay covered, the last I looked at the thermometer it was 26.1 an hour or 2 ago This is why I need a sail shade!

I’m running at 24c spot on. I’m only 1100gallons so will fluctuate more being on the smaller end of ponds but I do have a umbrella over now to try shade it but it’s light for so long during the day it’s always at least half in the sunlight. I’m actually considering buying a bigger umbrella. Still struggling against this pesty algae!

I'm just going to put the fitments on 2 walls, a fence post and tie the last corner around a tree! If there's any strong winds forecast I will just take it down. I only want it for the direct sunlight on these hotter days to offer a bit of shade through the day when the sun is at its hottest.

Oh no!!! major cock up yesterday evening.

Set my ASHP to cool late yesterday afternoon for a couple of hours after pond got to 26 and still on the up. Rushed off after work to an appointment, totally forgot to switch it back to auto
26 down to 20.5 this morning. I have switched back to heat and set to 22 to try and raise back up slowly but with the temp forecast for the weekend Sunday Monday is silly.
The Koi seem to be ok this morning apart from staying low in the water. Any advice or is the damage already done overnight with the 5.5 degree drop overnight?

I'm a total newbie in the South of France so please bear with me on my observations / measurements.
    Pond 9x2x2m
    'High' aeration thru 3 BDs
    PH 7.8, Kh - 7, GH-6 . O2 c. 7 (6-8 over last week)
My pond temperature has hit 29 first thing and rising (it hot here) , I have. been 26+for nearly 2 month.
Trickle feeding top-up but no changes ... yet, liquid dechlorination ( BB Carbon arriving sometime next week)
4 'sails' covering 80% of pond
I'm using 'Bactogen' every 3rd day -- I suspect that is illogical but .. I also did a sludge remover treatment ( Bioboost+) a week ago to try and get rid of some detritus / bad areas/\.

I have cut back HS Growth / Colour mix but still feeding early morning (twice) .... and if anything all are more vigorously feeding than ever.

The koi seem as active as ever, no fish at surface yet. They still want to be fed more ( they still follow whenever I'm close.

I am worried obviously, but my experience so far as that my fish have been able to do well in slightly higher temperatures than others here suggest.

Next year , I will be investing in a cooling system though.

Not ideal but I'm sure they will be ok. Immune systems should be working efficiently at these temps.

Not anymore mate as Frimley Park Hospital is a dead straight line from my house at 51.320 degrees latitude.

Cork in Ireland apparently has the warmest winters in the world at this latitude, or so I read.

Running at 22-23C throughout recent warm weather.
Pond gets full sun all day and there is no real shade.
One advantage of a fully in-ground uninsulated pond is the buffering effect sub-surface ground temperature - at both ends of the temperature spectrum.

Filter house feels cool walking in during the the heat of the day, but very warm first thing as the temp in there is largely governed by the water temperature (filter house/shed/shack is very well insulated).
My DIY ponds from 1988 until present day.
