My monthly DD went from £190 to £500 in march as i came out of a fixed rate deal and took another fixed rate to may 2024.

But my pond is just £80 a month of that,
The vast majority is 10kw electric showers half an hour a day.
3 x high powered PCs running all day for wife and family working from home most days of the week.
Tumble drier's washing machines, dishwashers, cookers
    All high wattage....

Same here..... just your average 3 bed semi, a 5600 litre pond, 2x vari pumps a uv and a 7kw inverter ASHP . We swopped and fixed our price with Scottish Power a few months back after our supplier went bust and the gas and electric is still £400 per month now.Put the same readings into a comparison site and most are looking for £900+ a monthWow might need to rethink ASHPWow might need to rethink ASHP God help us when it doubles again in October.

For those not on a fixed rate deal they are expecting the capped rate to go up to 40p/kWh in October.

    Its a travesty...
We are sitting on over a 1000 years worth of coal,
That is no more polluting than gas with modern power station systems.

Err just remind us of you pond volume I think most of us will/are going to go with the ASHP as a booster/stabilizer only. Ie stablise in spring and Autumn, boost a little over ambient in summer. For me its going off in winter and only kicking in at 6 degrees, im hoping with mega insulation it wont need to. Its still a great way to heat (in summer) At colder temps much less so.

i'm only going to be heating june, july, august, and september. with maybe some stabilisation if we get extreme weather in winter.
but relying on covering at night to retain daytime heat.

i'll have to see how much it costs direct electric heating, as even with heating just on economy 7 the cost will be a couple of hundred over the summer.
it may now be cheaper to use a summer rated ASHP that can be had for just a few hundred quid, vs an inverter model for a couple of thousand...

but i'm also going to try using solar heating,
just working out an idea for a decent sized rig that will be capable of a 1 - 2 degree lift on an average sunny day.

This is very scary , i am on a fixed rate with octopus atm and have a pond with 20 koi , 2 big mirror carp probably around 8lb-10lb each , a large blue orf and various small goldfish and 4 albino grass carp , if it goes up to much i will have to sell the fish and close the pond. sad because the pond has been here for 20 years+

i wonder if it will ever go back down to "normal" or are we stuck with this insane price?

As Dave says the irony is were sitting on a sea of black gold, we need to stop this eco-nonsense and get the coal mines opened up for now in the short term, then think of the long term strategy which is clearly nuclear. Personally id send fecking Greta to the front line in the Ukraine. Alternatively, lets all talk about sodding wind farms and electric cars.

i don't think this current goverment are going to do anything about it.
but if like them you're on £5k+ a month an extra £400 on your energy bills is just a little inconvenient....
have to cut back on the champagne and caviar...

the country hasn't had a winter at the massively increased prices yet...
i know some pensioners who have already turned off gas central heating and are using electric blankets...

this time next year, there may be mass demonstrations in the steets like the thatcherite poll tax days....

agree 100%, it's no use cutting all the fossil fuels if it puts you back in the dark ages....

they need a proper strategic plan to wean off fossil fuels,
and not have the free worlds energy policies dictated to, by rabid twitter and instagram liberal lefties...
or a 'woke' wish list, that basically precipitated the invasion of ukraine.

They already are..... https://www.bbc.com/news/business-59212992 This seems to have passed under the radar as most people are more concerned with a knees up at number 10. Just need to get the coal going now, unless anyone has any other ideas...... Interestingly the US will have massively developed wind farms by the year 2050, to supply wait for it! 6% of their energy needs . The world needs a massive reality check on the actual reality, its gas/oil and coal! (To give us the electric for electric cars!)
