    Clean/Vacuum pond floor

    Guys
My pond is nearly two years old and it’s dimensions are like this

Shallow end 0.8m sloping to 1.2m then drop to 1.6m sloping to 1.9m. I’m using a 3 inch bottom drain gravity feeding up to my Draco Rum
I’ve never cleaned the bottom of the pond and to be honest I really don’t want to either.
Is it necessary to stir up any crap on the bottom or can I just leave it alone?

You could use a 2" pipe and an airstone as an airlift vaccum - just put the output into the drum and let it self clean?

Alternatively simply stir it up, let the drum take it - that's what I've done before. In the new pond that may still be an option Only issue is that crap settles on the walls etc if it's not removed fast enough so turn up the flow rate for an hour or two after.

In the new pond I'll use a brush with an airlift into the skimmer through a flexi pipe all bits I have and it should work. The remainders will go down the BD after the aeration helps prevent it from settling.

    Hi

My thoughts are - muck equals areas nasty bacteria can live / hide. I sweep the muck towards my bottom drain if you do it regular then you don't get water fines

Nick. I remembered I have a Oais pond vac so I went and dug it out of the garden shed and fired it up…….. SH*TE. couldn’t suck an olive off a banana tree.
I then used my swimming pool vacuum pole with a brush on the end but to be honest it didn’t really stir up any crap……….. all it did was scare the shit out of the fish so I’m going to leave it.
The water is crystal clear. Water checks are good and the fish look happy so I’m assuming the bottom drain is doing a good job.
I’m pissed off that that Oasis vacuum couldn’t lift 3 feet of water.
