I can't imagine switching something off at the socket will damage anything. If it does, then that is a really badly designed TV.
At worst it might wipe some data that's stored on your TV e.g. passwords for apps (although I imagine most of that stuff is stored online rather than in RAM type storage on a TV).

Does anyone know if a new tariff is meant to automatically update on a smart meter?
Today my smart meter is saying I'm being charged 20.82p/kWh and 24.01p standing charge for electricity and 4.05p/kWh and 26.12p standing charge for gas.
That must be wrong considering my last fixed deal ended last November?

The only thing I was advised to not turn off is wifi routers as basically if you turn it off every day, it thinks the connection speed is crap and so it gradually reduces to try and find a consistent speed balancing it from nothing so you end up with under performing internet but this was a couple of years ago.

i can't be arsed to un plug everything that i have on stand by...
when i put my energy monitor on them last year the worst one was the wifi extender at 10w, wifi router at 20w, and virgin media box at 13w.
the whole lot added up to 43w for the 12 or so hours not actually in use, or about £1 a week...@28p/kwh

Considering I'm on some sort of pre-payment set up my unit rates aren't too bad compared to a lot of others, but am being stung on standing charge.
Day: 35.97
Night: 15.83
Standing: 41.75
Gas: 7.32
Standing 27.22
I tried to get off this tariff to a normal direct debit one and the prices were higher.

cheeky, sneaky, so and so's
scottish power have insisted i submit meter readings within 7 days for a quaterly bill..
funny that as they will take another DD payment in 8 days....
so i will effectively be over 3 weeks behind with only two monthly DD's paid in the last quarter.
probably to try and get a direct debit monthly increase...
well they can have two fingers... because i cut my useage by 40% and am still £300 in creditLast edited by davethefish1; 22-05-2022 at 08:06 PM.

42% increase in October
if you factor the 54% increase we already had in april,
It's actually a bigger increse than april, because it's the original amount plus the april increase.
so it will actually be a 64% increase...
so that's a total of a 118% increase since April!

What I still don't understand about this is the companies supplying gas and electric to consumers are making record breaking profits in tbe billions year after year, yet were led to believe that they can't sustain the prices. I really don't want to close anything down but the more I read the more likely it is that it will happen eventually

Definitely time to start making efficiency savings in the pond.
I’m turning 4500 gallons every couple hours after watching the koi wholesale videos.
20k EA vario running bottom drains at 50% 88 watts
60l air pump on moving bed 30 watts
20k EA vario running skimmer at 20% 50 watt
40w amalgam running overnight (made huge difference compared to evo 55).
So 168w in daytime and 208 at night on cheaper rate.

I had a first today, I went to fill up the car and hit the £99 limit set for pay at pump. This means I either have to go around and sit in the queue again for another pump or drive off and fill up more frequently. Not great is it
