Not great is it? But when you farm out contracts to your mates or donors or companies you are on the board of what do you expect. Only one one place to put the blame, feckin' Tory voters.

they voted down the VAT reduction on energy in parliament the other day, but at 5% isn't going to save people....
and they would just add the tax elsewhere.

100% they need to axe the green levy,
that makes up 25% of the energy bill and would go a long way to getting over the current predicament...
it's only currently subsidising rich people having £10,000 heat pumps fitted...

    either that...
or open 100 new coal fired power stations, 100 new coal pits, and start strip mining coal to fuel them....
just like the Germans are doing.......

I'm banking on these to keep the pond costs sane:

    Finishing the airline plumbing today

I already don't use a UVC or heat..

The EU is heavily dependant on fossil fuels, only France has made a jump to nuclear but we do need something better..

it's not the pond costs that will hike my bill up so much...the pond is about 10%-15% of my total energy bill.
when april the 1st rolls round and everyone who isn't on a tariff fixed before march last year will be in for a shock....

part of the problem in this country is taxation, 30% of the bill is for the 'green levy' and VAT...
axe those and the increase is more palatable....

funny you mention the console with young lads...
    wait till they're older...

my lad works from home now, runs a laptop and his gaming PC at the same time...which uses a corsair AX 1600i!
it heats his room so much he has a desk fan running all year round....
the radiator in his room is never on... it doesn't get cold enough!
god knows how much that is costing to run...

Wonder if this will mess with the likes of new forest and cuttlebrooke as far as fry go . End of the day to some people having a fry grow on tank is a luxury added on to the hobby my self included but many will have to close down their fry tanks after this increase meaning there could be a massive amount of fry going spare will that mean culling or what

I for one will definitely need to do some sums and see what comes up to keeping it going for q couple more years if not well I've got the icb ready for a nice size filter lol

yep painful few years ahead, sadly you can see the demise of some ponds as some will be faced with the extreme of heat or eat situations..... such a ploy - increase everyones costs of living and emmision targets will be met as heating your homes will dramatically reduce, driving of vehicles will reduce, the uk public will meet the emmision targets, wont be anything the government will do except cranking up costs behind the scenes with the providers....... such an easy win for the world leaders, punish your people! where is the punishment for the global industries / businesses that have reaped billions over the years but done diddly squat to protect the future for everyone....... short sighted or what.

I'm crapping myself over the upcoming rises.

I was paying £200 pcm for dual fuel on original fixed rate, circa 12p electric and 2.6p gas.

Don't know how much I'm paying now as not received bill from new provider, but likely to be close to double.

From April I can see £500 pcm a possibility if we don't change our ways sharpish.

Aj you are so correct, I am seriously thinking of scrapping my grow on next year if the energy goes up loads as I am a pensioner.

Ok I have my savings and try to make the grow ons pay for themselves which they have done for a few years.
But with electrics heating costs increasing dont think it will work ok so will have to re consider.

Toying with the idea mate I want to do it one more grow on this year but then I am already looking for a back up plan ie scrap the grow on . Use the tank as a anoxic filter and digging up my old plans for a airlift return . . But we will just have to wait and see what happens . The ripples this is gunna make are already a Tsunami to many

best things going for anyone on tight budgets except energy providers hit them with the highest tariffs...... where's the sense in that..

there's a lot wrong with our 'society' and i use those words in the loosest possible terms...
punishing people less well off with the highest energy prices is morally bankrupt...

i hope there is a God just for the purpose of sending people who decide these things to burn in hell for all eternity

just been working out what will be the cheapest method of heating for the next few years....
    ASHP or GAS.

i think an ASHP might make more sense for me as i'm not intending to heat to a high level over winter anymore.
but with a 50% increase on the cards for April the gap widens between gas and electric....
electric kwh is now 0.22p due to rise to 0.33p in april
gas kwh is now 0.04p due to rise to 0.06p

leaving a near 6 fold gap between gas and electricity prices...
making Gas a more attractive option...

but spare a thought for the poor impoverished americans,

who are still burning 3/4 of thier energy needs as fossil fuels, the other 1/4 nuclear...
they pay $0.12 cents per kwh or £0.08p in GBP...for electricity
    8p per KWH!

with the price of electric going up. stands to reason water bills will follow you cant make drinking water without electric nor treat foul water without electric. its only a matter of time.

I have to say, it’s massively reduced the time to break even point on my solar installation. It helps us more in the summer than winter, but still by reducing my electricity bill to nearly zero for 6 months of the year it’s a huge saving.

I think alot more people will soon start to invest in solar panels to reduce the electricity bills and also log burner fires to heat the house so as to save some more penny's plus what's happening with all these wind farms free energy just the build cost
