    Api test kit readings

I literally tripped over this website,
but it shows how to make, build, and calibrate your own colourimeter for test kits (way to complicated for me and list of components is in the USA)
Open source DIY kit ? Colorimeter User Manual

but it does have a page with pictures of all the PPM for the main API colour charts
so you can see the actual colour clearer than the printed cards imo...
the ammonia one i find much better than the bright yellow colour on the printed card.
i have never got that colour ..even with 0 TDS deionised water....

    API TEST KITS

    AMMONIA

    NITRITE

    NITRATE

    PHOSPHATE

i always have to do 2 ammonia tests one with pond water, and one with RO water.
and compare them side by side...
as 0ppm in a test tube looks nothing like the flourecent yellow on the printed card

    it's like the nitrate kit...
once you go over 40ppm it's virtually impossible to tell the difference between 80ppm and 200ppm
i just try to keep mine orangy

to be fair the only ones that are discernable are the first 3 or 4 in all of them...
the rest you can't easily tell the difference by eye and need the DIY colourimeter kit...
