Rehome koi Livingston scotland white with black pattern bekko ? Over 12 inches

We inherited a fish in pond of house we bought. We are trying our best to keep filter and pond clean, feeding etc but have just found out that although the fish is nearly 20 years old it may outlive us, and we havent the interest or expertise to deal with this longterm. Apparently herons made off with his pondmates and now hes on his own which is a bit sad. Feel responsible for the poor mite so dont want to put him on gumtree and give to some random person. But Ive got impression genuine fish people wont be interested in case hes carrying some pest or disease and I cant give them backgound of fish? Have emailed a few people on webpages for rescue scotland and got no replies. Rspca havent facilities. Should I hold out for someone on a forum like this to be able to take him or Is it wrong time of year to be moving him anyway? Thanks for any advice.

working out how to add photos.

    Hi

The fish will be fine being the fact that it is outside and most peoples pond will be similar temps. There are people who take pond fish off your hands as long as they are healthy and free. Search somewhere like Gumtree or as said someone on here might want him

    Thanks for that Kev.

If you think gumtree will be okay I'll try that if no takers here. I was just thinking I wouldn't give my dog to an anonymous stranger on gumtree, but then again I wouldnt leave him behind in the garden for the new owners when I moved house either, so maybe its just me! 😄

    Thanks again,liz

    Hi

There are a lot of people who take free fish from ponds that aren't wanted or closing down. I think the problem for the guys on here is bringing a fish into their collection that could come with a disease / parasites

Sorry it's too much of a risk for many on here who don't have a quarantine set up, I only buy my fish from two local suppliers that I've dealt with for 20+ years

I Completely understand Kev. I know the amount of time and money we are spending on this poor fish (or rather the pond, fir its benefit), and we arent doing even a fraction of what you guys will be doing. No one in their right mind would take him and risk what theyve taken years to achieve. (Hope no one else is reading this ..... )

Thanks for being approachable for questions (and the offer to take him from the Member who was unfortunately too far away. )
