Floating basket is a bargain as these are no longer manufactured and second hand ones are like rocking horse poo.

    Cheers

    Gaz
4,100 gallon pond, infinity window, duratec heater, aerated BD, 3 bakki showers full of BHM, amalgam UV, 3 Blue Ecos, construction skimmer, trickle in/out, Oase Profi Drum and some very spoilt koi.

3 separate grow on vats, one 1,600 gallon QT and a customer first business

I personally feel very uncomfortable with the fact that this particular tool of the trade is so widely used under the name of floating baskets, as if it were a necessity.
Basically, you should use the blue bowl.
I have seen many times from the past that even the big female KOIs are pushed in, which is quite bizarre.
And it seems to be happened only a British thing.....╮(-ω-`)╭

Originally made of wood. https://youtu.be/9cRGvRaPiqIIt was just an industrial tool. https://youtu.be/pf_5CR40_kU An Englishman started to sell it because he thought people would like it. In Japan, hobbyists rarely use them instead of blue bowls, as they are difficult to buy and unnecessarily expensive. You are free to use them for other purposes, but I have always considered that the water level is too low for large KOI's and that there is always pressure from below. If you want to continue to use them, I think you should re-manufacture an another products with a specific gravity that sinks more.

If I had a prototype of the more sinkable type of product I envisage, would it look like this?

There used to be videos around where Japanese dealers were holding koi auctions and the fish were floating past the buyers in the blue floating baskets. It's where I first saw them, so I don't think it is true that they weren't used.

I have one, but I use it for washing slate and gravel.
6,000 gallons, aerated bottom drains, Duratec heat pump, Profidrum, Biomax 50, Bakki shower
