Two Varieties
Hello All, l am new here but not that new to Koi but l have a question that has no answer on the internet.

What sort of question and response was that! What do you mean?
Do you mean for pairing?
For general pleasure and colour combinations?
For having some fish make other fish more relaxed and less nervous?
For encouraging hand feeding?
Let me check...

Hi
Koi come in many colours and patterns - very unlikely you will like fish that other don't and vice / versa
This is the whole reason this hobby is so addictive - when you see the fish in dealers tank you just have to have it
Most people look at colour before body shape - but true quality specimens are a combination of both and command high prices - out of most of our price range I'm afraid
My favourite fish in my pond are (in no particular order) and I only have 8
"Yamabuki Ogon"
"Platinum Ogon "
" Chagoi"
"Gin Matsuba"
"Showa Sanshoku"
"Shusui"
"Al Goromo"
"Gin Shiro"
They also change colour so watching them develop is also an interesting part too
Enough said it's addictive

I don't know if this is the right answer, but we tend to evaluate breeds that are close to the original breed, such as KARSHIGOI and CHAGOI, mainly for their body shape and skeleton, and the breeders of the KOHAKU and SANKE breeds are more likely to evaluate the quality of the HIBAN and SUMI breeds. If you look at the early culling by professional breeders, you can understand why this is so. https://youtu.be/QhScLLi9feM

It depends on which of the two you prefer, but how about a combination of KOIs that should achieve each of your objectives?Last edited by Naoki Atsumi; 04-08-2021 at 11:16 PM.

Agree with g mac, someone who might benefit from some calming tranquil time spent sitting along side a pond watching the koi, and relax
