tempest on a skimmer line?
As I work away a lot and am not always around to purge a sieve everyday I have seen two tempests pllaced together so you get 15k feed.
Would this work on a skimmer line as the claims are that the tempest may go a few days before needs cleaning.
any thoughts
Jim

From what I've read the max flow rate is 7500 lph but the best flow rate is 5000 lph so maybe for a 15000 lph supply you'd need 3 filters?
I've just fitted one yesterday on my skimmer line and after about 12 hours the muck it collected was amazing. OK so I'm running a well undersized pump so it's not catching everything it should I would think as most of the videos I saw of them running the K+ media only got a muck build up in the bottom couple of inches or so where as mine is already green all the way up in just over 12 hours after a double flush this morning. AS for leaving it running for a few days between cleans it's too early for me to say but mine would be blocked in a few days if it keeps collecting at it's current rate and I didn't double flush it each morning I would guess.________________________________________________

only run around 5.5k through my single unit which is plenty I reckon as it collects a ridiculous amount of muck in 24 hours, running from my skimmer, downside is, it needs cleaning everyday to keep on top of it otherwise it becomes a major operation.
be different after a sieve or a pod I guess as it would only be dealing with fines.

That's how mine is currently working as a pre filter for other filters so gets everything going through it on my skimmer line. May need a bit of a rethink or a better way of doing the cleaning process. I do 3 drains each morning but could probably do with a 4th but will wait for it to mature and get a bigger pump fitted before doing anything regarding rejigging the pipework etc.

just sort of thinking the same, currently got skimmer, uv, tempest to top of my shower and then bd to pod, moving bed to top of my shower, could really do with a small gravity fed sieve on that skimmer line or alternatively go pod and tempest on my bd, sieve moving bed on my skimmer, I’m running two 10,000 lph pumps so very easy to swop things around.

They are sold as a water polisher but can also be an additional filter or even a stand alone filter so should be able to handle a fair bit of muck being thrown at them

I am running mine on a separate skimmer line via an EA 10000 litre pump currently running at 80 per cent. I have now purged it several times the crap it collects is unbelievable. You can tell when it requires a purge the skimmer starts to hold muck that end rather then getting to the tempest. I think its a fantastic bit of kit.

I'm looking to fit my AF 10000 lph pump onto mine as soon as I can fit an EA 20000 lph in the pond. Was going to try it at 50% first with just the tempest and protein skimmer on the system then try to do a bucket and stopwatch flow rate test to see what it's actually running at

The plan is to get away from purging a sieve everyday. Yes frim I would use two in parallel at say 12k then add 5k from the 16k the multibay outputs.
That way get a good flow over the shower but the reduced flow on the skimmer means it's not the black hole it is now sucking food in before the fish have a chance to get it.
I'd still keep my cyclone in circuit before the tempests.as a means of reducing the load on them.
just need to be in a situation where I can purge every couple of days.

Food going down the skimmer, fit a small 20 lpm air pump and a pair of air stones hanging just under the mouth of the skimmer. Put it on a timer to run for 15 to 20 minutes or whatever suits at feeding times. Job done
