Air is the main thing its all about the air pressure change with the storm drops the oxygen levels in the water. Obviously more worrying if you have sturgeon with their high requirements anyway.

It’s important to remember that the oxygen carrying capacity of the water is temperature dependant as well as related to atmospheric pressure. So the warmer it is, the worse the effect can be on oxygen levels. If I was concerned I would actually drop the temperature of my pond to help the fish out (with an ASHP you can do that, but also water changing with cold dechlorinated mains water is an emergency measure worth considering if fish start gasping at the surface).
Also don’t forget that with heavy rain when the filters have been working a lot with summer feeding, a pH crash can always be possible. Rain water is acidic, so as well as diluting the KH in the pond it also consumes buffers. With summer feeding carbonates get used up my filter bacteria. So the 2 factors together can be a recipe for depleted KH and a crash if you are not monitoring your water.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

That's a good point on PH Feline, this is another thing I love about the seneye you can see trends, here is my PH, started to drop a couple of weeks ago when I had to turn off my trickle in for fluke treatment, and now this rain on top which is due for a good week by the looks of it, I now need to start 2nd fluke treatment so trickle in will need to go off again tomorrow - So thinking best to order some Biocarb damn quick to be safe... what's the recommended dosage ??

Money you've got just buy the buckets of koi buffer man lol..
I got the 10kg last time for storage but mine pond is only 2k gal but do have to use it constantly with having pretty much 0kh out the tap.. I would get the 25 if I was you and call round the the local Indian takeaway lot them use the blue barrels with the air tight lids. Food grade so idea

Is there any specific Bicarb you need to use or is any of it ok? I was thinking of getting some as my KH is down to 4 at the moment, usually around 6-8. Would rather have a little more of a buffer, especially as I plan to PP once the nitrite is down anyway after spawning!

I would be paying people to do the work if I had a lot of money mate, not doing it all myself

I was looking at popping in and grabbing a sack from here, they do free delivery too but want to see what else they have I can use
Sodium Bicarbonate (TATA) – Hexeal Chemicals (hexchemonline.co.uk)
Just awaiting a reply from them if this is okay... they do PH balancing kits too so worth a look.Last edited by dbs; 18-06-2021 at 08:56 AM.
