O2
Hi all,
Noticed that my O2 levels are naturally down from over the winter.
Seneye isn't the be all and end all of accuracy but it does help show rises and falls in the parameters.
The output for O2 refers to dissolved oxygen potential. This not directly measured, but is calculated, using an industry standard formula, from the other parameters that are directly taken. For this reason it only shows the maximum potential, not a true value in your pond or aquarium. The output is shown in PPM.
I know over the colder months O2 is usually at higher levels and as the ambient temperature increases through spring/summer O2 levels naturally fall.
During winter (water temp 14 degrees) my Seneye was reading 9.9-10.00 ppm all the time and now I'm reading 8.6 ppm. (current water temp 22-23)
Noticed over the weekend one or two of my fish are spending more time with their noses into one of the returns and I've also found out today that the black slimy stuff I started noticing over a couple of weeks ago on my bakki is something called Phormidium.
So I suppose the questions are:
Is the current O2 reading of 8.6 still OK, or should I be looking at trying to introduce more O2 as this would also possibly help deal with the Phormidium.
Also is there any correlation between the lower O2, Phormidium and the fish hanging around the return? Or is it just a temperature thing?

I still can't work out how to show the o2 readings on my Seneye if I knew I would let you know my thoughts, though strip tests often say my o2 is low even though I have 3 airpumps - EA 95 into Nexus, EA130 into Drako Bio and another EA130 blowing into the aeriated bottom drains, I couldn't get more air in it if I tried

I emailed them this morning and asked how why I didn't have the O2 widget showing on the overview page.
It works on the PC dashboard view but not on the dashboard App on your phone?? you can still bring up the tab and click on it but I the full graphs view isnt there?Rosie (seneye)

Many thanks for your email.
I have checked your dashboard and I can see the Dissolved Oxygen potential widget just on the device page at the bottom of your dashboard. If you just click on the tab just under where it says overview and scroll down, it is at the bottom there:EZ-pond 1200i Semi-Raised Pond, Spin-drifter BD, Oase Aquaskim, Oase Proficlear Compact Gravity, 1x Bermuda 10,000, 1x Evo-Aqua 20,000 Vari Wi-fi Pumps, 2x Evo-Aqua 70L Air Pumps , Evo-Aqua 55w UV, Aqua-Sieve Midi, 3 Tier Fabricated Stainless Shower, Hydro-Pro Z7 Heat Pump, 48" Big Blue De-chlorinator, Profi Auto Feeder & Seneye Pond Pack.

It's all well and good using a calculated value but if you use a treatment that strips oxygen from the water does the other parameters used to calculate it also change accordingly to make the calculation more accurate?

So is it just a case of, as long as your doing everything you can to start off with to add oxygen i.e. in pond air stones, spindrifter, air stones in filter/media, perhaps a bakki or waterfall etc and all other parameters are good and no treatments are in use, then O2 levels should be more than adequate to off set any natural falls?
Or is it the case that as O2 naturally falls, when ambient and water temperatures rise, we get humid weather, thunderstorms, various treatments are used....etc we should just recognise that there will be less O2 and so naturally be looking to add even more, excess O2 with more airstones etc?
I have read that some keepers don't really like to much air directly in the pond ie. spindrifter due to the disturbance?
So do they just keep the O2 adequate and then add and remove extra O2/air as needed ?EZ-pond 1200i Semi-Raised Pond, Spin-drifter BD, Oase Aquaskim, Oase Proficlear Compact Gravity, 1x Bermuda 10,000, 1x Evo-Aqua 20,000 Vari Wi-fi Pumps, 2x Evo-Aqua 70L Air Pumps , Evo-Aqua 55w UV, Aqua-Sieve Midi, 3 Tier Fabricated Stainless Shower, Hydro-Pro Z7 Heat Pump, 48" Big Blue De-chlorinator, Profi Auto Feeder & Seneye Pond Pack.

Sorry for the late reply.
I think if the O2 levels drop too low the fish start showing signs of it like hanging round the air stones or diffuser etc in the pond or they will be up at the surface gulping air.
So testing for O2 is kind of confirming what you can see going by the reactions of your fish I tend to think?________________________________________________
