Finding a floating plant Koi don't eat?

For a good few years we have had no plants in the pond, mainly since we have not been able to source anymore floating pennywort. (Naughty I know, but it was the only plant that grew faster than the fish could eat). And we have never drained the water into the sewer for it to enter water ways, the plant was always composted.

I have tried many different plants including potted plants within the pond, all are ripped apart and eaten.

Greedy blighters, anybody would think they were starving.

I put all my plants in floating baskets so the koi can't destroy them. Got fed up replacing plants weekly.

The only plants my koi don’t eat is plastic ones. There is no basket my koi will not climb into to destroy the contents of either. The best option is to create a planted bog area in a separate area, or a chamber of the filters as a veggie filter.
My koi get a lettuce as a treat now and again. It’s been consumed down to just a stalk in around 20 mins

I throw a lettuce in to sometimes, it's like watching a water polo game with a ever decreasing ball size lol

We did try floating baskets and baskets hanging from the side of the pond, believe me that didn't stop them. They jumped into the baskets, splashing and thrashing around while the others sucked at the roots.

I haven't really got room for a veggie filter, so after searching the forum I found a member who created a cheap floating basket with large leaf watercress from the supermarket.

Making a float out of garden kneeling pads, but I'll double the height so its raised up as far as the netting cover over the pond (I bet they will still find away in) and add the watercress to the basket as described in the thread called: 'Super cheap, simple nitrate filter'.

I read the watercress will root and hoover up the nitrate, and I'll have to stick to the artificial conifer screening across part of the pond for shade and shelter.

Oh I tried the floating baskets with water cress once. Yep, they climbed in and scoffed it. I think when you look at peoples ideas of things like this, you need to take into account whether they have big strong hungry koi or not. I’m guessing not looking at some of the pics I’ve seen haha.

No such thing as a plant koi won't eat I'm afraid.

So far so good with the floating basket idea with watercress from the supermarket. The watercress is already growing.

The basket is placed within a kneeling pad as suggested in the thread 'Super cheap, simple nitrate filter' The reason my large greedy Koi haven't got to it yet is I have it raised higher in the water, attached to the side of the pond and netting covering the top of the basket. Once the watercress has grown through the netting who knows.
