    Pond changes

With all the problems this winter and spring have thrown up what's on peoples lists for pond set up changes to better prepare for future high and lows in water keeping...
    Mine are
    A heater to help maintain
    Better insulation around filter
    Better covers
    Better bio filter
And if I have the money and find a good deal a seneye that'll shout at me if I take my eye off the ball again
    And a qt setup

I need covers for mine. My electricity bill wouldn't have been half as bad had I had them! I just didn't expect us to still be suffering such crap weather this late in the year. Otherwise, finish the filter bay off which hopefully starting any day soon and get the garden sorted in general! I will see how things go this year when I am feeding heavily with my current filters etc then maybe look to add a midi sieve before my filter next spring but we shall see.

I more than most have the list.....problem is I wasn’t quick enough setting it up.
The ASHP bought from a forum member last week is big enough to heat both my current 1000 gallon pond & the new £2,200 gallon with 2 windows below water level.

The pergola frame is built but just need to source the roofing material. I aim to have a polycarbonate cover that lowers when required

the Drum filter bio combi unit is sat without water & the media was being seeded in the smaller pond.

The concrete base went down today for the walk in filter room that will be insulated.

The filter system will be split 4 or 5 ways
    1)2x 4” bottom drains to drum / bio /amalgam / ASHP back via 2” to 2 of 5 returns
2)Skimmer to sieve / bio then UV to inside filter room Bakki shower to blade or low return3
3)Aquaponics grow pipe system in adjacent greenhouse heated & led light for all year round cropping and nitrate removal
4)winter by pass to send warmer water into the smaller pond during low/ non feeding period then back to return4
5)separate anoxic basket system taking water directly after sieve return5

Seneye pond monitor linked to WiFi & Thermatec ASHP linked to wifi

2x 30,000lph vari pumps + 1 emergency back up pump

Did I miss anything ....oh yes retiring so I can spend time testing & double testing.

Cosmetic changes for me as well as other stuff...

Trying g to finish landscaping so I can the finish tiling to the pond.

I need to insulate the filterhouse before the winter, I have the insulation kicking about all over the place

I have a spare window that I have been thinking of adding to filter house so I can open the windows when hot, but obviously not had hot weather yet to see if that is needed

I want to go heated to just keep the worst of the weather at bay and level out changes but not sure what's best yet... may get solar panels to assist with likely hideous running costs

Mainly get the above done so I can sit by the pond and enjoy the bloody thing Pond changes

My thoughts exactly. After 6 years without heating this spring has has proved a disaster for me. Despite being covered the diverse temperature ranges from one day to the next has been the killer
