I've also spent a good deal of time browsing on exclusively koi via eBay and also Gatwick koi, but never actually ordered... Yet.

I'd say all of the above have been great, Aurora in particular as Gaz will go the extra mile to ensure you get what you need for a good price and quickly.

The quality of fish from Cuttlebrook exceeded my expectations. I was thinking, they are British bred so probably won't be great, but the 2 sankes I got from them are stunners, one in particular would probably do alright in a competition, were it not for the koi pox.

The only negative experience I've had was from Kitsu. I'd ordered a stunning kin Matsuba from them. Waited and waited and waited. Finally chased them up and they told me the fish had already been sold. I was p'd off, one for losing out on such a great fish and secondly as I had to chase them up and they weren't that apologetic. But I suspect it was just becaus ethey were super busy and slow to mark stuff as sold on the website.

I'd also be wary about Koi Logic's website saying they have something in stock. Their website is usually (and has been for a few years) totally inaccurate in terms of saying they have something in stock when they don't. They are local to me so I now call them first to check they have what I want, to save me a wasted journey.

I think my favorite day out is the Oaks Koi farm, nr Kirkham, Preston. Paul will look after you (and like Gaz the kettle goes on!) and his site is just amazing, he's been finishing his website for years, so its hard to see what he's got, but its like an Aladdin's cave of polytunnels and very large tanks full of Koi in a beautiful location. Just be aware there's a guard dog who may lick you to death. Ive got 2 more to collect at the beginning of May, counting down the days .
I heard an interesting stat the other day cant remember where, but its something like a very small percentage of sales in the UK relating to ponds are at the higher end with 'proper' dealers like 2% or something, its a massive growing market that's booming. Come on Gaz, time for that smallholding/stroke Koi farm, escape the real world!

    Hi all,

I have only just seen this thread and am humbled by some of the comments I have read.

Aurora Koi is my business and whilst certainly not the size of some of the others mentioned, swimming in the same ‘compliment pool’ as them is really pleasing to read.

Whilst my business is small and continuing to grow, Norton (my stepson) and I continue to place the customer first and live by how we started:

Go the extra mile - it’s not a crowded space
An echoing til demonstrates true customer satisfaction

We stock solely Japanese Koi (all from one importer) which are usually Tosai and Nisai and can access a wide range of products - most of which are not on the website due to time and maintenance. If anyone ever needs anything we are rarely beaten after understanding the requirements and strive to leave every customer with a positive experience. We never force sell and will always offer our honest opinion (even if that means getting a product from elsewhere).

For you those who have not contacted us as yet, we would be delighted to hear from you and receive your feedback.

    Cheers

Has the type of dealer I'm hoping for, the one who grows-and-raises the value before selling, emerged yet?
Shouldn't those who just buy and sell be called just importers or brokers in the future? ( ,,`・ ω´・)ンンン?

This is the kind of role I want them to play.
The achievements of Narita-san's son, who is active now, are too numerous to mention.

On the other hand, the famous KOI dealers in your country in the past have only played the role of glib agents.
And they negotiate with Chinese leagues or Gulf or something in that direction...ヽ(;′△`)ノ

There is dealers who do this. Queni Koi get tosai and grow them on all summer, selling them at a high price to begin with and including the growing on fee.

Yes, it is true that the name Queni KOI is often heard these days.
Hopefully they will improve their rearing techniques and in the future they will be able to raise and sell not only TOSAI, but also 2SAI, 3SAI and above, as well as the Grand Champion KOI!

As many of you may already know but...
This is the scene in Narita KOI farm and shop.

Looks like this one is trying to do better by keeping the 2SAI in the growing season!

We`re quite lucky , here in the North West to have some really good dealers .

Love aquatics , based near Blackpool has already been mentioned a few times , and they get my vote too . Really good value for money Israeli koi and excellent customer service .

Another excellent dealer of Israeli koi is Cascade Koi in Bury . Had a visit on Friday , and was really impressed with the choice and quality of the fish . The staff left me to browse , which I quite like , and the quality of the water in the vats was absolutely superb . Slightly more expensive than Love Aquatics , but the fish were of a higher quality .

On the Japanese front we have my local , Holmeswood Koi near Ormskirk . . Well worth a visit and have some quality fish and very helpful and knowlegable staff . Also , there`re developing a really nice garden centre section full of Japanese maples , Bonsai , cloud trees , as well as pond plants . Definitely worth a look .

Just down the road we have another Japanese dealer in The Oaks koi farm in Kirkam , nr Blackpool . Run by a really nice chap called Paul , who cant do enough for you . I bought my Draco Drum through him , and found him really helpful . Good quality fish , too , in all sizes .

We also have Quality Nishkigoi in Warrington , run by Tim Waddington , who does the YouTube videos . Never been , but fish seem to be reasonably priced , so I hope to have look soon .

Ive also bought from Adam Byer , a really nice guy . Also really impressed with how the business has grown over the last few years . Bit far for me to visit , but hope to get there one day .

Anyone tried Holmeswood Koi up here in darkest Lancashire?

Not a super-duper flashy place, a bit old school, but a great selection of quality Japanese fish. Always been helpful and Barry always like a natter when time allows.
