Plumbworld macherator - are they suitable for koi pond waste

    plumb.jpgHello

I have one of these plumbowrld macherator units for the waste that comes out of my Draco drum. Tonight when I got in from work the motor was switching on for 2 seconds then off for 4 in a verty ccylic pattern . then when I went to check the inlet pipe to it it packed up and wont switch on.
I have onky had this for 7 weeks.

Are these things suitable for koi filer waste or are they meant to be just tap water only.

to my knowledge no leaves or what I would call heavy waste have gone down the pipe its just waste from the draco washes.

Does anyone have any similar experence with this or can anyone recommend and alternative to this unit.

    thanks

    Jim

I had the same thing and the motor burnt out the second time I tried it and it only had been running clean water through it and less than about 5 minutes in total.

a decent macerator suitable for foul waste, will run £400 ish.
but may have trouble with blanket weed.

blue drum in ground and float activated sump pump?

If it can cope with human shit then surely should be able to cope with fish shit? Maybe the frequency of use is outside the spec?

There are a lot of cheap chinese imports.
You can get a 110mm macerator for £40 on amazon
And yet a 110mm saniflow will set you back £400 ish.

The chinese may use them for entirely different reasons like only N1's

i agree with dave blanket weed could be wrappimg around blades . i worked for yorkshire water the macerators were serious industrial and real heavy wattage and could still jam up wont go into what jammed them up on a sunday morning. could small frogs get as far as the drum.

    lol!
the macerator pits at the prison where i worked for a while as a maintenance pipefitter were a nightmare...
twin 3 phase motors in a 10ft deep pit, the inmates used to flush whole blankets, down the toilets

no blanket weed or frogs or leaves etc

    just bit puzzled by this.

Was thinking of mabye getting a small square platic box . fitting a waste pipe gasket into it. then getting a solids handling pump with a float switch?

yes it would be 400w but only for 5 seconds every wash so not that bad

good shout - but my drum is washing every 25 mins on avergage at the momnet. So you are looking at 4 litres an hour in over 3 washes

compare this with they advertise it as suitable for showers and sinks- they produce alot more water than thet but could it be they are for say 200 litres all in one go then nothing for 24 hours then 100 litres nothing for 12 hours etc ?

can you sink a blue barrel in the ground, and just run a float switched sump pump from it?
    most handle solids pretty well...

Got something similar for my main pond waste set up.

I have a 90 litre rectangular tub on the floor in the shed with the Eazy Pod, Multi Cyclone, Sieve and skimmer line wastes emptying into it as and when I clean them. There is a smallish puddle pump in the tub that is permanently switched on and just kicks into life when the water level in the tub raises below about half way. This then pumps to a couple of water butts which then empty onto the grass.

That macerator looked ideal for my QT system but was a bit temperamental as I didn't have an NRV on the outlet so initially kept cutting in and out the first time I tried to drain the Eazy Pod and the next time I tried to use it I think it may have tried to run and then the motor burnt out so I ditched it and have currently got a 10K lph pump connected in it's place which just about pumps the water away OK but will need replacing with something similar to the main pond waste system if I can make it fit in the same space?

What 10K lph pump are you using? Mine is a fixed speed Aqua Forte but I haven't proved it properly just know it does work but I think it's trying to pump past the puddle pump as the 2 waste systems are linked via an Oase Y with isolation valves on so I think I need to isolate the main pond waste system when I clean the filters on the QT system. I predict a few floods when I forget to open the valve back up

Aquaforte DM Vario 10'000 all my pumps are the same so i can swap them round from bottom drain to skimmer to Answer or waste. this gives me a bit of back up should a pump die as well plus the run time on the pumps

Sounds like a good plan using all the same pumps. I didn't realise that the 10K lph fixed speed pump had smaller fittings than the 10K lph vario pump had until I went to fit it ages ago so it just went back in the box as a spare if I was desperate

    nice work Frim.

I have a NRV on mine as instructed on their guide where the vertical lift is but Im convinced stuff was seeping back.

Could you give me more info on your setup with your box as I am thinking the same.
Put a superfish pump in a plastic tub with a float switch. ( never wired a float switch ) Got solids handling there with a decent pump and would only need a 4k one max i guess as its only drum wash/ sieve purge.

    thanks gettting back to me

    Jim

I'll see if I can put a link to my thread which hopefully shows the system for you.
