hanging basket?
anyone come up with a way to hang a plant basket (filled with gravel) onto the inside of a pond? I'm thinking a bracket of some kind screwed to the outside of the wall might work but seems like there's no off the shelf option...

well, I won't be building my bog filter this year by the looks but I fancied growing some watercress (got some rooting in the kitchen now actually). The pond has vertical sides so nothing to rest a basket on.

Not pretty but if only short term depending on wall width some it like this then the chain from the basket as you would normally https://www.screwfix.com/p/magnusson...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

As Aj said above,do you have a shower?
If so what I do is shove some watercress into the gaps between the containers so they grow and hang down over the ugly boxs.
Would be carefull putting baskets in the pond as koi can hurt themselves, you could make a frame from pipework to keep the cress together and just throw it in the middle.John

Hi Clippo,
How about just having a pole across the width of the pond and hang the baskets below. Most aquatic baskets have holes around the rim which you can thread garden twine through. I think the watercress would soon disguise the pole and string.

Why do you want gravel in the basket? Watercress doesn't need it and it will escape into the pond. When I've done similar in the past I've just had it floating inside a retaining ring of some sort made with the 15mm push fit water pipe.

very good point. Actually I realised this earlier today. The problem is the gravel making the basket so heavy. I've got rid and am just using a cable tie now as this should also lie underneath my coping when that eventually goes on. I've got my watercress cuttings in a polystryene raft at the moment so the basket holds it nicely with good flow through too. I brought the cuttings in though as I think it'll be a bit too cold at night for a few days at least for them to survive.

I had a couple of floating baskets with watercress once upon a time. The koi literally climbed in to eat the cress

cheers - yeah I love the idea that it's closed cycle. It uses the nutrients in the water generated by the koi and then it can supplement their diet too.
