Spitting food can be a wide range of things as I have learned, but parasites and flukes in particular are the first thing to rule out. Keep scraping until you find something.

Scraped a few fish again today.
First off, a couple of fish that were looking a bit listless, all I found was one dead fluke. Then scraped a very healthy looking Ogon and couldn't believe what I was seeing, the sample under the microscope was just a seething mass of flukes, could hardly see a gap between them.

At least you have found the issue G Mac. My new Showa is still testing me, she has a bit of mucus on her head and shoulders and was spitting some food but seems to be eating as normal again. Not sure what to do at the moment, scrapes proved fruitless last time apart from one dead Trich, and since then I have seen zero flashing or flicking. Everything seems fine now and all fish are eating happily but the showa has the mucus. Sitting on my hands at the moment.

Certainly is, more so when you have lost fished in the past like we have. It makes it difficult to decide what to do that's for sure. I have scraped twice recently and found a total of 1 live trich, one dead one and a live fluke. Due to the fact that the fish are all seemingly happy I don't want to interfere at the moment. It's only my new showa that plays games, she's been fine for the last 3-4 days, but goes through phases where she eats a little then spits food and swims about below the food but don't really eat much, to literally steamrolling through the others to eat as much as she can as quickly as she can, so as you can imagine, it leaves me a bit unsure with how to deal with it. At the end of the week it seems like the spring temps are finally arriving with consistency so I will just continue to monitor for now but I have fluke treatments and others to hand if need be and work from home so can get scrapes done if she starts acting up again! I do wonder if she's just a bit sensitive as the other koi are all completely fine, and as I said, one day she's a bit off then the next 5 she's a gannet!

Some are effected more than others probably due to their immune system or general resistance to things?

Got a showa exactly the same, he/she was very unwell, but looks to have fully recovered, but some days I've got to really look for him/her, but then feeds well and swims with the rest, did notice my Shiro flash a few times, he/she was/had also been unwell, noticed a sanke flash as well, don't really want to go chasing them about with a net for now, but will keep an eye on things.

I've 0.5 % salt level in pond at the moment, what can I use for flukes if I do find anything?

I can't guide with the mixture of fluke products and salt, they vary in ingredients so all products need their own information. I know Acraflavin & salt are fine together though, but unfortunately flukes are not affected by either.

Seen a few of my fish flash last few days, my young chag I've noticed most today and my showa did it today one of the sanke's and shiro I've seen do it, I know some fish do it for no particular reason, but for me to see 4 doing it, there could be somin going on, the fish I haven't seen do it may well have been.

It certainly sounds like there is, I only had one fish flashing relatively frequently in my pond and although I found nothing on that particular fish, there was trich and flukes present on another, albeit literally one of each. The one thing that I think has helped is keeping a relatively consistent temperature around 14 degrees rather than lots of jumps and drops.

Just put in the second dose of Fluke Solve this morning. Judging by the behaviour of a few of the fish, it was definitely needed. Some still spitting food and a couple flashing and then swimming rapidly around the pond
So hope this second dose sorts it. If I can't get it sorted this season, I really will consider packing it in, hate seeing the fish distressed but also I can't just keep on throwing money at it.

I spoke to Paula Reynolds yesterday, I phoned to order Activex as I've run out and she told me that there is another strain of Fluke, that is resistant to the usual treatments, when you look at them through the microscope they are fatter in the middle part of the body, where as the regular Fluke is streamlined so to speak, there's a new treatment by Vetark called Fluke Solve plus that can treat for them, I've looked that up, but unable to find it myself though.
If anyone can shed some light on the product, be great.
