I usually add the crystals or solution to my skimmer basket then bring the water Level just below it and top up over the skimmer basket. I always over compensate to be sure too.
Not sure how getting a big blue will be cheaper, ST crystals are about £7 a kilo that will last years if kept well, and a few grams is enough to do my whole pond. The only benefit I can see with a big blue is maybe removing some of the other crap in the water going in to the pond but the chlorine situation is covered by the ST

My top ups go through a dechlorinator, run at around 2litres per min. Also add ST every time.
Going out to check the fish in a minute, hopefully all will be good.

I just add ST crystals to my header pond. I have a trickle in so I add a teaspoon of crystals daily and then dose accordingly for water changes. Never had a problem doing it this way. Even if it isn't the most scientific way it beats just spraying the water over the pond and hoping it will gas off the chlorine enough.
That said... I'm sure folk had less parasite problems when they just sprayed the hose over the pond and hoped for the best.. I know I did, never treated for parasites in the 20 years before I found out about ST. I have come to think that although obviously not good practice, the relatively small amount of diluted chlorine worked against the nasty critters to some extent. Not an answer I know but I do wonder if there is anything to my theory.
Hope you get sorted with the fish.

Remember when I was a kid me dar and nana both had tropical tanks. Dar did every thing possible. Tests every day dosing with this that and the other. Fish dieing all the time. Gran never did out forgot to feed half the time and never had a issue??

Often the way lol, every morning on my dog walk I look at a galvanised cattle trough full of plants and goldfish... I told the fellah before he did it not to put fish in, galvanised , small water volume, and just a small all in one combined filter pump etc.. told him he was asking for trouble ... well its been frozen almost solid half the winter, temps must fluctuate like crazy.. yet the buggers are still there swimming about. I know theyre only goldfish but bloody hell.

Never thought of that analogy, probably an excellent point, often of what affect heavy rain has on ponds and lakes in general, but dismissed it because of their volume and general size, it doesn't seem to bother the fish in said ponds and lakes either, I've had some really good red letter days fishing in wet weather, I've had some shockers as well, so I don't know really

My thought was the food itself. Have you only recently recommenced feeding? Or maybe just moved from wheatgerm to multiseason
... With perhaps a tub/bag of good that you didn't quite fully seal in the autumn? The air might have got to the food, like when you get un-crispy crisps.
Or is it brand new food from the same brand/new batch or different brand altogether
Just some things to rule out. Mine always spit out different food, even if they then chase after and eat it.
Unless it's mussels but I think even mussels they either ignored or spat out the first couple of times.

Food is all fresh and not left over food from last season.
Anyway went out to the pond earlier and he was first one up and waiting for a feed. Dropped a few pellets in and he took a mouthful and no spitting.

All we ever wanted was everything,
All we ever got was cold,
Get up, eat jelly, sandwich bars and barbed wire,
Squash every week into a day.

Glad to hear this Gmac, mine seems to have perked up a bit as well, charging the food again although still crunching it for a while but definitely keeping most in it seems. Maybe they told each other in koi language to give their owners a break and stop being fussy buggers

Noticed my Goshiki is spitting pellets now but the Showa seems to be back to its normal self (as normal as I know of it as its only a week and a bit old in my pond!) I wonder if the flukes are multiplying as its been around 16 in my pond the last few days. Tempted to treat for flukes as have found them recently and spitting food is a sign of Gill flukes.
