    Virkon tablets

I have never used these before and wonder if many of you do? i have noticed today my Karashigoi still has a red mark actually in the middle of a scale on his flank towards his tail, this has been there around 10 days now, it seems to be growing very slowly, also noticed today on his head what looks to be like a cotton wool like small fleck, thinking this could be bacterial i was wondering if Virkon tablets may be the answer ? any guidance on this appreciated, cannot see any other fish with issues.... i will post a picture in the morning, thanks Steve.

I have used them and although they didn't prevent my issues or revert them I still felt it was a necessary addition to keep any unwanted bacteria out of the pond. I have run out currently though so will be looking to either get some more or get some Virasure tablets which are similar but a bit more expensive. Not sure if they are better or not though would be interested to hear peoples thoughts as well if they have used them

You can buy it as a powder for a fraction of the price, just need scales and a spoon

I didn’t buy this much but a single tub would last a year!

Hi Big H do you add a tablet directly to your pond water or use it just for hygiene / net dips etc...?

I dose at 5g per thousand gallons.i use the powder, its cheaper but have a tube of tablets as a spare.I mix with hot water, allow to cool then pour in the pond.If you add to the drum the aeration in the bio turns it into a foam party. You increase the dose if you have bacterial issues.I buy it at 13 for 1kg which lasts 2 years .Virkon is a genuine aquatic disinfectant and doesnt seem harsh on filters

I use Virasure in my pond and I have had great success with treating bacterial/parasite issues in the pond Apparantley Virasure is the successor to Virkon.

wait, so this is something that can be thrown in weekly, fish safe and help maintain bacteria/parasite (obviously not all)??

in theory you could to keep bad bacteria down but there shouldnt be a need to if filters are kept clean

    It won’t keep parasites down.

Will not stop Parasites but does help to get rid of any dodgy bacteria you make have manifesting in the pond. As Seph said though, regular maintenance should help this too. I am planning on using Virkon still though as had so many issues last year if it helps remotely to keep the pond that bit healthier then its a thumbs up from me.

Although to what extent it will kill bad bacteria but not kill good bacteria I’m not sure
