    Homemade Tempest, but better…

    Hi,

Thought I’d share a homemade tempest filter I see on YouTube by Wrighty.

    Pretty impressive in my opinion…

Just wondering what the cost of it was compared to a tempest I would think not a lot different apart from the man hours to build it.

It will cost around £140 to make it if you shop around, so £100+ cheaper, not many man hours, there's not much to build. It's an acrylic tube with a couple of rubber boots on the end and a couple of slide valves.

Works perfectly and cleans properly, and it’s automatic! Wonder who will be the first to make it commercially?

If you didn't go for the electrics to automate it like a standard Eazy Pod it would be even cheaper to build and the water levels between each clean could be adjusted to what you want as the final settings looked like that were a bit short on the second refill? I thought it would have been better a bit fuller so the bottom of the media was always above the air inlet so all of it gets a good boil not just 75% on the second boil?

    Looks and works well though.

I know he was tight for space height wise but maybe could have gone with another set of flexi rubber boot reducers top and bottom as the bottom had the water inlet off centre which a flexi rubber boot reducer would have centred? Or maybe could have gone with 8" to 2" reducers if they exist?

Guessing the door bell will be replaced with some kind of timer by the next update.
I reckon even I could build that apart from the electrical bits.
    Very good effort

I do hope he's not running 240 volts through that bell push? If he is then that cable feeding it shouldn't have the brown and blue cables exposed like they are the outer insulation should be covering them.

It does look like a decent concept and is far better than the ea tempest. That polycarbonate will get mucky over time I’m sure, I would probably go for a non transparent tube if I built one but for a concept it’s good to see it working.
