If you don't have a heat system, when will you start feeding again?
①Feeding should be resumed when the water temperature is above 14 degrees Celsius.
②In the beginning, give them something easy to digest, like baby food, once every two days.
※In the past, we were fed cooked barley, but now we are fed crushed formula feed for low-temperature.
This is the prevailing water temperature in Japan.

So in Japan, it is often reopened in early to mid-May.
Some beginners can't resist and start giving earlier than that, but some experts are even later than that.
Here is an advanced method.

Here we go again
First I have to point out I don't care about water temperature in Japan, I don't live there so of no help to me whatsoever!!
I started feeding again at 10c as three books I got all say 10c my fish are active and looking for food

Look we can link to our weather conditions too -

Unless you have got something more to add apart from Japanese weather data no one is interested any more
End of thread!!!!

I often feed as low as about 7C which is the temp they tend to start being more active and up looking for food (at least that's my anthropomorphised interpretation of their behaviour).
I don't give them much and always wheatgerm based and they take their time lazily taking a pellet here and a pellet there, but always gone within a few minutes.
The resulting "short extrusions" on the pond bottom suggest it's going through them OK (but I accept that when it comes to fish health I should definitely be classed as "Fry").
Luckily they can't see the thermometer readout from where they are or they might hold back

If we didn't feed our Koi below 14C they would only get food for 3 Months of the year.
But the preceding 9 Months without food would have caused them to be dead by the time it is 14C, which does save food but also makes the hobby less interesting.

How many more people have to say they are sick of hearing about your weather and your feeding. Still not answering a single bloody question as to why you think the whole nation is keeping carp wrong... Your words the UK are feeding wrong do shows the wrong time of year doing this and that wrong... Why. And until you can answer that simple question don't bother boring poeple with crappy links any more. You have nothing to say and saying it to many times. Worse than bloody spam this fool like

There you go Aj I'm now a leading expert in groundwork because I can put a link to something related to it
But I'm sure the sea temperature around Japan would have some bearing on the best ground temperature in the UK as in what time of year I should be using it. Don't suppose you know anyone that could post a Japanese sea temperature graph do you?________________________________________________

Whilst it seems you are trying to help Naoki, I think a few members are struggling to understand how. If you are able to point out the flaws with the UK way of keeping koi, you need to be able to present evidence to back this up with solutions to how the UK can improve their koi keeping ways. Whilst I appreciate you are adding some Youtube videos, anyone can add to youtube and unless there is some strong evidence to support your claims I think you will struggle to convince UK koi keepers to change their minds on doing something they have been doing for a long time, which is generally following advice from koi dealers or their own experiences. I don't know if things are getting lost in translation maybe but we need more than weather comparisons to understand what the point you are trying put across. They keep koi in the USA and many other countries that suffer far harsher winters than we do in the UK and they clearly don't have issues with them otherwise people wouldn't waste money and time keeping them knowing they will die come winter.

Went out fishing on Saturday, carp fed well in the local pond and we all caught a few, water temp was 5.7deg and my pond was similar so thought I would give them some wheatgerm pellets, 12 pellets done in a few minutes so left them a few more and they took them straight away. I gave them some brown bread this morning 1/4 slice and that was gone this evening. I will feed small amounts to hopefully let the bacteria start up, just fed some frozen tubiflex worms and they ate them quickly too...........spring is here
