Oase biotec 10 with non standard media??

Hi all. I'm moving house and I have a large 9000l steel framed pool which will be home to my fish for at least 6 months. I'm was thinking I would set the pool up with some sort of cheap secondhand box filter so that it is a complete functioning system on its on. Then move the fish and my live media into the new system giving me time to move my main filtration over without any pressure or risk of failure. Its a lot to do in one day!

Anyway I have found a oase biotec 10 filter box forsale locally but I cannot find any videos or diagrams of how the water flows though it. I was hoping I could move my jap matting Into the second chamber for bio filtration and use the standard sponges in the first bay for mechanical.. Does anyone know how this filter box flows and if I will be able to use my existing jap mat media in it? I only need this functioning for a week or so.

    Here is the item.

    Thanks!

I used to have one, I'm trying to remember how it worked exactly so you'll have to forgive me if I get it wrong.. but I wont be far off.

For what they are they were not too bad a filter really.. anyway..

Water enters the first chamber, drops to the bottom then comes up through a removable box that houses the sponges.
It then flows across and enters the next chamber, I think it then goes down through the second set of sponges (again the are in a removable box) before then coming back up to exit the filter.

In the two bays below the boxes there is / was a bit of what resembles a very coarse woven mat.

As the sponge holder boxes are both removable I cant see any reason you couldn't remove the second sponge box and put your jap mat straight in that chamber if you so wished, assuming the chamber is large enough.

    Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the info. Your description is how I also thought it worked however take a look at this Facebook listing.

    https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...4125991638898/

The water enters the left hand side through the two upper holes where the hose tails should be right? I cant see how it the drops down and comes up through the first set of sponges. It must go down through the sponges which must mean all the crap gathers on the top of section 1 and not in the bottom of section 1. Is this correct?

Do they have drain holes at the bottom or do you lift the crap out on the removable trays? Thanks!

Yeah, I've been looking for examples and got a little confused myself, its a few years since I had mine, there may be some variations through the model years .. or mine may have been set up the wrong way round when I got it lol, I never really thought about it as it worked ok.

Looking at various pics on the net it does appear it may be correct going down through the foams and then up over the divide and back down through the foams before then exiting.

Because the boxes are removable I imagine it could work either way... but that listing is missing two entry pieces that direct the water straight down as it enters the filter.

There are no drains so for a full clean it is a dismantle job, the foams can be removed individually though for basic cleaning, but mulm / silt does tend to gather in the chambers below the boxes that hold the foams.

    Hope that helps a bit.
