hi ajm thanks for your reply, i have the tank in an outbuilding which has some big windows so it gets natural light and there is a 5ft tube light in there, but no specific light for the tank, would it benefit the fish (arriving tomorrow) to have a dedicated light above the tank ? or will the natural light be enough ? cheers mate mark

Must admit I put a lamp on a timer on mine, not sure if it makes a difference but makes me feel better. Only cost a few quid from Argos, floor standing ones, just make sure they can’t get wet.
Interestingly I noticed that when the fish moved to the pond the colours improved especially yellows

Interesting I noticed the brown darkened on the ochiba I had in there when it went into the pond but not by a huge amount (it’s still a bit pasty even now)

Apparently there is a D vitamin that you can only get from natural sunlight that is very difficult to reproduce using electrical lighting.
There are some Fluorescent tubes, Sodium discharge and Metal Halide lamps that can produce a very mild version of the D vitamin but nothing close to natural sunlight can and that's why you can get the colour changes when moving fish from an inside tank to anything outside that gets natural sunlight.

Reply to your answer ziqqys dad,I dont use any light in my grow ons in the garage.
If you have good light then you are fine,if you can put some poly carb on top it will help with the heat presume you are heating a bit.John
