No problem with eating fish I've caught in the past but that's a bit different. I once caught a decent sized Pike out the canal as a kid and my dad soon had it ready for mum to cook, he used to take any eels and the like also, so I wasn't brought up fussy but I'd have to be pretty desperate to eat my own pond fish

haha I know what you mean. Only fish I eat nowadays comes either in a tin or pre prepared in batter lol.

I've gone right soft though, had to neck 10 cockerels a few years back when I had chickens and had a bad hatch, no one wants em bar for cooking so I raised them to the point they were right for the oven then near cried while necking them and ended up giving them to an old lad up the road cos I couldn't eat them. Gave up hatching chickens after that, didn't get one hen from the hatch, and I couldn't do it again. So no, not going to be eating my water babies anytime soon.

It's amazing how words have different meanings for different areas of the country as down south neck or necking refers to drinking something quickly

Yeah, we have it for drinking I think, as in "neck it back", also for passionate kissing "necking", and then as I used it for breaking somethings neck.... prob don't want to get one of those three mixed up with another lol could be carnage.

Remember the first time I was down Leicester and being called "duck" it seemed really odd. Everyone of the opposite sex was always called "love" up here but lately I've heard one or two young uns complaining its sexist... bloody snowflakes everywhere now.

I thought the term Duck or Ducks was an old woman thing as my gran was born in the London area and used it a lot.

Largely an east midlands thing I think, but some other places use it though to a lesser extent so she picked it up somewhere.. Apparently it first came into usage in medieval times so its stood the test of time.

Bate and Baggin ( basically just having your bate in your bag makes it your baggin which you eat at bate time ) are pretty interchangeable for me, and yeah, the Scots are the same with fish suppers .. some look at you like you have 2 heads if you just ask for fish and chips lol.

Talking of eating .. how about "clempt" to mean your hungry ... "I'm that clempt I could eat a buttered brick"

mmmmmmmm yes chips and scraps don't even need the fish.
