can't wait to rebuild this pond come spring...

Plenty of drums out there but its reliability you need Dave as you know moving parts break

The queni 25 looks decent, and good value.I wouldnt get too hung up on mesh size. Biofilm reduces it anyway and what doesnt get caught this time will get caught next time

QK25 likely has the 120 micron to enable the flow rates.
Pretty sure most drums are 80 or less, I mean 120 is still half that of most sieves so will do a good job just won’t be as polished.
Doubt you would notice it all that much without windows

You wont regret it , Dave .
My old set up was an Easypod , followed by a bead and into a plant/bio filter . Even in winter I was cleaning the outdoor bio unit every 2 to 3 weeks .
I recently converted to a drum (draco solum16) and bio unit . Its made an unbelievable difference . I scooped out some of the k1 from my bio , the other day , just to see if there was any muck lurking beneath . It was like looking into a freshly run bath full of water - not a speck of dirt anywhere . The drum has taken the lot .
My only drawback is that my Mrs is starting to notice my inactivity , and is finding a list of jobs around the house , longer than my arm ! I need a project - quick !Colin

Having a drum is a life-changing experience compared to any filter that needs maintenance on a daily or even weekly basis.
You won’t regret it!
The only danger is ‘drum complacency’- a condition whereby you forget to ever go into your filter house to check everything is ok because it all just runs itself in there. I have set a reminder on my phone to go take a look once a week because I totally forget about it these days. Around once a month I give the waste chute a quick hose off to keep it clean and sparking.

Agree with you on that Feline, i check about twice a week to ensure the cleans are on around the hour mark and i also check the heater that's in there.... just my brain going over drive about it going wrong and melting the side of the filter box and electrocuting the fish.... such a worrier !

don't think i'll need that high a flow rate,
if i end up with around 10,000 to 12,000 litres once an hour should do....
i just wanted a drum with a reasonable amount of screen surface area,
the QK 15 is quite small and has just the 3 cleaning jets
the QK 22 looks the same physical size as the QK25 with 4 cleaning jets, with a smaller mesh at 70 micron.
but is another £400 @ £1780 vs £1395 for the QK25.
pity you can't option a 70 micron screen on the QK25 and accept the lower flow rate.....The Solution to Pollution is Dilution

Never heard a bad word about the QK drums, but they are not at the cheaper end of the market and a little bit more cash would get a profi drum.
I've been eyeing up the Filtreau Combi Next for a while now, appears good value, relatively compact and comes with an amalgam UV. Just need some convincing about their after service since just getting info about the drum took quite a bit of email correspondence.

Sorry mate, didn't realise they now do a QK25 as a combi.
Yes that looks good, might be a few cm too long for my filter pit but in all other dimensions it's actually more compact than the Filtreau.
Maybe I need to have another measure up!
Mesh size looks on the big side, wonder if they'd do it with a 60 micron mesh?

I think the Filtreau is good for the price and incl a submersible UV though only one 110 outlet and it has 60 mm screen.
On the other hand the Queni is handy to you Dave which is good if spares are needed, that is why I went for a Draco as they are made local to me.
I nearly went for the Filtreau or Aem which I think are the same but got my Draco 25 for a great deal.John

Maintenance
I have an oase proficlear premium that I picked up used. It’s not missed a beat and I don’t think it will. High quality units that are built to last!
I really like that the screens are replaceable and everything is inside the box, every part is easy to order online from a washer to a controller. Yes parts are expensive but I do believe it’s a higher quality part, and I would rather pay for a new motor 10 years later than have to replace a drum 3 years later as it’s failed and not repairable or parts unavailable.
It’s all a case of each to their own really but I’m just giving my first had experience.
