    Cheap Drum Filter

I'm really interested to know if anybody has purchased one of the home made drum filters available on ebay and gumtree. I am seriously tempted by the one below and have had good comms with the guy so far. I know that this requires mains water for the cleaning jets but other than that I can't see any problems. It looks so simple.
Could the more experienced members offer their views? I know some people are going to say 'you get what you pay for' but the bigger brand RDF's are more than double the price of this one second hand.
Very keen to hear your views.
    Tim

Why bother? No backup when it goes wrong - how do you know the electrics have been done properly and all are sealed?

Ive looked at these and thought they look well made, but as above. Filtreu is available for 925 including built in 40 watt UV. Thats the way id go.

So given the Filtreu has the u.v, there isn't really much difference in price for the drum unit then? Personally I think if you are spending that sort of dosh you are probably better going with a "proper" manufacturer / seller with a tried and tested product.

Thanks to everybody who has replied with their comments. I had looked at the Filtreau models but must admit I found them confusing. Will look into it a bit more. I suppose I liked the simplicity of the cheaper one.

That looks sturdy enough though I could pick some faults.
The jets look too far apart though havnt seen it working.
Motor looks like a windscreen motor.
    Mesh doesn't look very taught.
    Could be more.

Dont want to rip it apart but if it was me either the Filtreau which I know nothing about or the Aem which is £995 delivered.
I was going for the Aem till I got a Draco solum for a great price.

So as said mate i would go for something someone has tried and tested.
Good luck on your decision, only saying my opinion.

I run two of the high flow Filtreau drums and have been pleased with performance so far and happily running 20k litres an hour through each one and am
happy I’ll get more when I turn the pumps up in the spring if needed. I bought mine from kings Lynn Koi but think Gaz is now stocking them as he helped me out with a rinse pump problem I had. The AEM models look the same and as they are both Dutch may well come out of the same factory

I have to the smaller filtreau running at 10,000 with the accompanying bio box and to be fair it’s an absolutely solid bit of kit, built in UV and so quiet when washing. I have less to do with this filter which is great but it’s actually boring !! We all like to tinker about But it just does the job Effortlessly. I’m only 1200 gallon not heavily stocked and well pleased. You can but the wash pump separately from other sources as when they come as a kit they are double the price. Another option for higher flow which I run

    https://aurorakoi.co.uk/product/filt...0-drum-filter/

They never take the advertised flow, I ran 20k lph ok and suspect I’d be ok up to around 25k. Feeds by 2 110mm inlets and 2 110mm outlets

They do a hi flow version as well, my one has one 110 inlet as opposed to the hi flow which has two 110 inlets runs at 30,000 but not sure about the figs someone else will let you know.
The mini is rated at 15,000 but I’m only running at 10,000 On a 1200 gallon pond. Which is superb

Stephen will also get a fitted amalgam which my HF30 doesn’t have (although you can DIY fit one afterwards.

I think the mesh size is the same on both?
