What can I expect during winter
Ok so I read a lot of stuff ie reduce feeding at water 10c stop feeding at 8c feed wheatgerm based food , but having only had koi for 6 months what happens during winter. I'm guessing they will just tuck themselves up low down. I won't need to do weekly water changes. When do I know when to start feeding again? Is there anything I need to do before they go dormant? Anything I need to do when the weather warms up?

They don’t go dormant, and you need to continue water changes though you should be able to get away with less- say approx 10% per week.
Filters do not die, although the biofilm will diminish to match demand. Fish still secrete ammonia even when not fed at all.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

So also should I still feed them? Like only small amounts and if they swim to me like normal

Thats a controversial question. Most people continue to feed, but just small amounts and only what they will eat in a couple of minutes. It’s best to avoid growth foods and other higher protein foods at low temperatures because they won’t use that to grow longer, just fatter. All seasons and wheat germ based foods are probably better. Don’t overdo it what ever you decide to do.

I've only just built my pond and have zero first hand knowledge on koi, only stuff I have learnt on places like this and from speaking to people.
I have 3 small koi in my new pond and feeding a very small amount of wheatgerm. They are eating it as soon as I put it in.
