    Hi mate,

I use amalgams and prefer them for the following reasons:

    No leaks from additional pipework
Easy of installation and bulb replacement
    No fiddly connections
    No reduced flow rate
    Bulb lifespan

That said, there are some ‘drawbacks’ to consider:

UV is dangerous and these can pose an increased health risk
Some equipment Drums and chambers) are not suitable for Amalgam use
Price is higher than most ‘regular’ UVs

For me, so long as the health risk is managed, I would (and do) chose these.

    Cheers

It’s really just a strong UV bulb in a glass sleeve inside your filter as opposed to a weaker UV bulb in a glass sleeve inside a narrow pipe that needs plumbing in. They do the same thing, and each has its advantages and disadvantages as Gaz says above.

Im not sure where you could put one without exposing the bio media to UV, which you don’t want to do? I don’t have a Nexus personally though.
